Yeovil Town have made their sixth signing of the January transfer window. They have brought in striker Courtney Duffus from Oldham Athletic, with the 23 year old former Everton academy player penning a contract that keeps him at the club until June 2021. The Glovers have paid Oldham an undisclosed fee for his services, with Oldham retaining a 40 percent sell-on clause.
Born in Cheltenham on October 24th 1995, he was a former Cheltenham Town youth product who was signed up by Everton in the summer of 2012. The 6'2" forward was given a professional contract with the Toffees in the summer of 2015. He didn't get as far as their first team, although did make one appearance for their Under-21 side in the EFL Trophy. He was part of their Academy side that won the Gothia Cup and an Under-18 title, then at Reserve Team level he helped them win the Premier League Under-23 side. During that time, he also had a five game loan spell with Bury.
In the summer of 2017, Duffus left Everton, signing a two year contract with Oldham Athletic for an undisclosed fee. There he made just nine appearances, with all bar one of those coming from the substitutes bench. During the 2018-19 season, he's been sent out on loan to League of Ireland side Waterford where he's scored ten goals. He has not appeared for the Latics during this season. Manager Darren Way has said that he has been tracking Duffus since his Everton days:
"Courtney has been on my radar for a long time. With the links that we had at Everton that at the time saw Shane Duffy, John Lundstram and Liam Walsh arrive, Courtney was a target on the same list. With his attributes and the way he plays, I'm sure he can become a fans' favourite and a very successful signing at this football club."
The Glovers have already recruited defender Joshua Grant on loan from Chelsea, whilst Alex Dobre has arrived on loan from AFC Bournemouth, whilst earlier today Tristan Abrahams arrived from Norwich City on a half-season loan. Meanwhile midfielder Matt Worthington has been snapped up on a permanent basis from AFC Bournemouth, whilst this week saw Ryan Seager leave Southampton to sign a permanent contract and start his second spell with the Glovers. The January transfer window has also seen loanees Olufela Olomola, Enes Mahmoutovic and Omari Patrick leave the club, whilst Wes McDonald, Shaun Donnellan and Jordan Green have also left the building during the month.
