Yeovil Town have made their fourth signing of the January transfer window. They have brought in striker Ryan Seager from Southampton on a permanent basis, after he agreed to leave the Premier League side. Ryan returns to Huish Park for a second spell, following a short loan agreement during the 2017-18 season. The 22 year old has spent the last six months playing for Telstar in the Netherlands, where he made 12 appearances, scoring two goals. He arrives on a pemanent transfer, keeping him at Huish Park until the summer of 2020.
Born in Yeovil on February 5th 1996, he had been on Southampton's books since 2004, where he made two appearances for their first team, both during the 2014-15 season. During that time he had four loan spells. The first was a 2015-16 four game spell with Crewe Alexandra aborted by a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. Saints still thought enough of him to give him a new contract in July 2017, and he went out on loan with Milton Keynes Dons for the first half of the 2017-18 season. He made 22 appearances for them, scoring three goals.
At that point, he joined Yeovil Town on a half-season loan. There he made just seven appearances, scoring one goal in a 4-1 defeat against Stevenage, but ultimately spent a lot of his loan spell sat in the stand due to Football League rules on matchday playing squads concerning loan players. As such, Glovers fans didn't see as much of him as might have been hoped. During the firt half of the 2018-19 season, he went across to the Netherlands, signing for Telstar on what was intended to be a full-season loan. However, that was cut short when he started to lose playing time, with his final tally giving him two goals from twelve appearances. Manager Darren Way has said of Seager's return:
"The opportunity to bring a player born and bred in Yeovil to the club on a permanent basis, couldn't be missed. We know Ryan from his time with us last season but from seeing him in training we're dealing with a different mindset this time around. I'm excited to be working with Seags once again and look forward to seeing what lies ahead."
Ryan's arrival at the club comes on a free transfer, with him penning an eighteen month contract at Huish Park.
The Glovers have already recruited defender Joshua Grant on loan from Chelsea, whilst Alex Dobre has arrived on loan from AFC Bournemouth. Meanwhile midfielder Matt Worthington has been snapped up on a permanent basis from AFC Bournemouth. The January transfer window has also seen loanees Olufela Olomola, Enes Mahmoutovic and Omari Patrick leave the club, whilst Wes McDonald, Shaun Donnellan and Jordan Green have also left the building during the month.
