Yeovil Town have made their first signing of the January transfer window. They have brought in Chelsea defender Joshua Grant on a half-season loan, ahead of their League Two trip to Mansfield Town. He generally plays as a centre-back but can also operate as a right-back. His contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the 2018-19 season.
Born on October 11th 1998 (aged 20 years old) in London, he has been on Chelsea's books since the Under-8s level and made 30 appearances for their Under-19s and Development Squad last season. He signed his first professional contract with the club in October 2015 and even spent the final month or two of the 2017-18 campaign training with Chelsea's first team, although has not got near a first team matchday squad. Manager Darren Way has said of his arrival:
"Josh is powerful, athletic and has a good personality. This is a great opportunity for him to get regular first-team football and I'm pleased to have brought him in."
Joshua has also made nine appearances for Chelsea's Under-21s in the EFL Trophy, including the October 2017 match at Huish Park which saw him play a full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw. His most recent appearance was in the EFL Trophy on Wednesday evening, in Chelsea's 1-3 home defeat against Peterborough United. His loan spell with the Glovers will keep him at the club until the end of the 2018-19 season. He will wear the No.21 shirt during his time at Huish Park.
