Yeovil Town Academy player Gabriel Rogers has been named in a monthly list of players compiled by the League Football Education. This is a joint venture between the Football League and the Professional Footballers' Association, established in 2004 with the aim of providing the educational aspects of the Academy Scholarship programme. Whilst most Scholars study for a BTEC qualification at a local college, the LSE also provide their own Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence framework which supports players during their Apprenticeship.
They have chosen eleven players for October 2018, and have included wide man Rogers in their list, with him having become a regular on the Glovers teamsheet during the 2018-19 season, having got onto the pitch for three substitute appearances, as well as being an unused substitute on 15 further occasions. The 17 year old is yet to be given a contract by the club, but has become a beneficiary of summer changes in Football League rules that require clubs to name a 'homegrown' player on their teamsheet for each matchday. With the Glovers having no full time professionals that fit that criteria, Rogers is yet to miss a first team fixture in terms of the matchday eighteen.
The LFE have profiled each of their eleven players listed. Their profile for Gabriel reads as follows:
Second-year apprentice Gabriel has established himself as a highly-rated prospect at Yeovil after a string of promising performances in the senior side during pre-season. Having been awarded a first-team number this summer, the 17-year-old has appeared in three competitions this season, making his debut in the Carabao Cup against Aston Villa, featuring in the Checkatrade Trophy at Bristol Rovers and earning a Sky Bet League Two bow in the latter stages of a 6-0 win against Newport County. Regional Officer Roger Gibbins said:
"Gabs has forced his way into the first-team after an impressive pre-season and is now training with them on a regular basis. Despite this, he is continuing with his education, hitting his targets and showing an excellent all-round attitude."
