Yeovil Town manager Darren Way said that he was pleased with his side's reaction to falling behind against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night. The Glovers had to fight their way back from 0-1 down, after Tom Lockyer netted from a corner in the 37th minute during the club's second public pre-season friendly match. During the second period, they managed to find an equaliser, with a set piece also providing the input, as Bevis Mugabi headed home a Carl Dickinson free kick.
Way referred to the 'punch in the face' that his side had to deal with, as part of conceding that first half goal, and told BBC Somerset that Mugabi's second half header was exactly what his team needed to deal with that sort of problem:
"There's a good mood in the dressing room. We've been together all week. We've played against good opposition. It was a challenge today. I've not seen them get punched in the face. That was probably their first time and it was important how they reacted to that. I thought they did extremely well. With Bevis Mugabi, that's what you need in a football match. You may go a goal down, and it's how you react."
Way said that he was not reading too hard into results at this stage, mindful of the fact that last season commenced with an extraordinary 8-2 defeat against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road, despite having managed a number of reasonable scorelines in their preceding friendlies. He said that he was pleased with the way that three of the club's Academy players - Daniel Ojo, Tyrique Spencer-Clarke and Gabriel Rogers - had blended into the first team squad:
"Our performance was fantastic. I put on three or four of our younger players, which is good to see. I've tried to incorporate the younger players within the squad. You can see they're developing at a very fast rate. Everything at the moment is going really well. But having said that, I thought we had a really good pre-season last season and we took a hit in the first game. So I have to make sure that we're aware of that."
