Former Yeovil Town striker Ryan Bird has found himself a new club for the 2018-19 season. The 30 year old has agreed to move from one National League side to another, with Maidenhead United agreeing a contract to join them from Dover Athletic. This should cut down on the player's travelling radically, given that the Slough-born player lives in the area.
The signing for Maidenhead is a bit of a coup, given that Bird scored 20 goals last season. Dover finished one place outside the National League play-offs, missing out on the final day, whilst Maidenhead finished four places lower. Since leaving Yeovil Town he's carved out a useful career mainly at fifth tier level, spending half a season with Eastleigh before briefly moving back into League Two with Newport County.
He then spent last season with Dover where he enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career since his early days with Burnham where he scored 45 goals in 45 games during his final 2012-13 season before Portsmouth signed him up.
Maidenhead United are currently on a historical high, having been promoted to the National League top division at the end of the 2016-17 season as Champions. Up until the 2004-05 season, they'd never been higher than the Isthmian Premier Division.
