Former Green and Whites Supporter Club Chairman George Coggen has passed away at the age of 79 years old. He led the club's main supporters association across a ten year period, in what transpired to be the club's final years in non-league football, stepping down in January 2004 just after the club entered the Football League.
In addition to the current roles that the GWSC employ today, such as organising the selling of programmes and away travel coaches, he also ran the club's teabars until his departure from the club. During 2002, Mr Coggen was part of the committee that changed the constitution of the GWSC into a limited company, having previously operated as an ordinary supporters association.
Current GWSC Vice Chairman Paul Hadlow worked with Mr Coggen during that period, and explained what he had done for the supporters club and the football club during that period:
"George was an avid YTFC supporter for many years, and virtually lived at the club at one time. He would arrange away travel and even drive minibuses to games. He took on managing tea-bars and general stadium maintenance and post-match cleaning - all voluntarily! He even looked after the club cat. Not everyone saw eye to eye with George but he had a good heart and great sense of humour. The GWSC send condolences to his family. RIP Cog."
If we can obtain funeral details for George, we'll publish them in due course.
