12 September 2017 : Morecambe Crowd Sees Huish Park League Record Crashing To A New Low
Yeovil Town's attendance against Morecambe tonight set a new club record - for the second time this season. The August 12th record Football League low crowd against Accrington Stanley of 2,464 lasted precisely one month before it was broken on a second occasion. Tonight for the League Two home game against Morecambe, only 2,205 supporters were registered at Huish Park for the 2-2 draw that left the Glovers in 17th place in the table.

The new 'record' now means that the club's lowest three Football League crowds have all been set within the 2017-18 season, and from three of the four League Two fixtures played so far. The exception to the rule was the home match against Coventry City, but that crowd of 3,754 was kept well away from the records by the presence of 1,056 travelling Sky Blues fans - there had been only 2,698 home fans in the ground on that day.

Tonight's record low of 2,205 ticked a lot of boxes - a low travelling away support, a Tuesday night fixture immediately after a Saturday fixture, and some dreadful weather conditions. However, it is becoming clear that the overall level of attendances at the ground this season are significantly below anything that has been seen at Huish Park for a long time.

Currently the average gate for the four games played in League Two stands as 2,789. That's the lowest since the 1999-2000 season, and is currently on a par with the 2,779 average gates that the club recorded in the 1996-97 season when the Glovers won the Isthmian League title. Only three Conference seasonal averages between that point 20 years ago and now dipped below that level.
