Yeovil Town won their penultimate pre-season friendly this afternoon, as they put four goals past Southern League Premier Division side Tiverton Town at Ladysmead. The Glovers were made to work for it once again as the Devon side came from two goals down to level the game, but ultimately two second half goals gave Yeovil a 4-2 victory in their final away friendly.
The match saw the Glovers revert to a 4-3-3 formation, having used 4-4-2 for much of pre-season, suggesting that formation and tactics are still up for grabs for the 2017-18 campaign. Artur Krysiak got his first start between the sticks, which suggests that both permanent goalkeepers will be fit for the season, whilst there was no sign of Jermaine Easter, who has been offered a contract with the club, but since then has missed the last two friendlies.
The away side took the lead early on, with midfielder Connor Smith firing home from just inside the 'D' area outside the box, and curling the ball into the top corner for a 0-1 lead, after Jake Gray had set up his shot.
Yeovil doubled their lead on the half hour mark, as Tiverton's defence got into a mess. A lack of communication between one of their defenders and the home goalkeeper allowed Francois Zoko a chance to intercept, and he easily passed the ball into an empty net for a 0-2 lead. So far so good.
Two minutes later though, Tiverton drew a goal back from the penalty spot. Tom James was judged to have pushed Nick Hurst inside the box, and Owen Howe slammed the spot kick straight down the middle, relying upon Artur Krysiak having already committed himself, giving a 1-2 half time scoreline.
Yeovil made three half time substitutions, but still conserving the same shape, with Omar Sowunmi, Rhys Browne and a new trialist coming on at the break. However, six minutes in a howler by Artur Krysiak allowed Tivvy to equalise. His attempt to clear his own lines saw the ball passed directly to Jordan Rodgers and he was able to tap the ball home for an easy equaliser at 2-2.
Alefe Santos was introduced as a second half substitute and he needed just five minutes to make an impact. He chested the ball down and volleyed home from inside the box, with a confident looking finish for a 2-3 advantage.
Tiverton legs tired in the closing stages, whilst Yeovil were able to freshen things up as Ryan Dickson came on for Daniel Alfei, allowing the versatile Tom James to switch flanks to the right-back slot. And they got their fourth goal of the afternoon, when Connor Smith struck home a well flighted free kick for the final goal of the afternoon, inside the final ten minutes of the match, to end the day with a 2-4 victory.
