Yeovil Town have completed a deal to sign former Swansea City defender Daniel Alfei. The 25 year old becomes the club's nine signing of the summer, and has agreed a two year contract with the Glovers, following a short trial with the club. He signs as a free agent.
Daniel is a defender who has so far played as a right-back in pre-season matches. Born in Swansea on February 23rd 1992 he was part of their set-up from 2006, before turning professional in April 2011. He made four appearances for Swansea, but the majority of his first team experience was gained by loan deals. There he took in Wrexham (17 appearances, two spells), Portsmouth (15 appearances) and Northampton Town (14 appearances).
He was also capped for Wales at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level, accruing 37 appearances across the three levels, including 13 for the Under-21s, with four goals across the three levels. He was released by Swansea in the summer of 2016, and spent the 2016-17 season playing for Welsh Premier League side Aberystwyth Town. Manager Darren Way said after signing Alfei that he was surprised that the defender was playing at that level:
"How Daniel has been playing non-league football for Aberystwyth Town is beyond me. It's up to him now to take this opportunity and aim for 40 league games this season."
