Tonight sees Yeovil Town play their first pre-season friendly of the summer as they travel to play Southern League Premier Division side Weymouth. For two clubs with such historic rivalry, it's unusual to note that this is the first time we've headed to the Bob Lucas Stadium for nine years, with Russell Slade the last manager to take a team there for an August 2008 friendly. The one and only goal was scored by Aidan Downes, who had just joined the club from Everton.
For those travelling to the match, the ground is what used to be known as the Wessex Stadium - you may find that local signposts still mention this - but is now known as the Bob Lucas Stadium. They changed the name of the ground in 2010 in honour of club president Bob Lucas, who at that time was suffering from terminal cancer, and have maintained it since. The full address is:
The Bob Lucas Stadium, Radipole Lane, Weymouth, Dorset, DT4 9XJ
Most supporters travelling to the game will head down to Weymouth via the A37 from Yeovil, and then get onto the A35 Dorchester bypass going Eastbound for a couple of miles. You need to take the A354 towards Weymouth at the roundabout next to Dorchester Town's ground. Take this road into Weymouth (there are a few sharp bends). At the first roundabout on the edge of town, take the 2nd exit and follow the A35 Town Centre signs. At the 2nd roundabout turn right for the Town Centre again.
At the 3rd roundabout you should start to see signposts for the Bob Lucas Stadium (they may still be labelled as the Wessex Stadium). Take the 2nd exit keeping on the A354 and follow these signs. At the next roundabout, known as Chafeys, take the 3rd exit for the B3157 into Granby Way. The stadium should be visible in front of you at the next roundabout. Take the 3rd exit, which will take you into the stadium car park.
