Yeovil Town Under-18s goalkeeper Kingsley Latham has signed a professional contract with Premier League side Southampton. As reported earlier this week, the Second Year Scholar, who is 18 years old, featured in their Under-23 side that played against Tottenham Hotspur Under-23s at Stevenage's Broadhall Way ground. He has now been given a contract with the Saints until May 2018.
Latham was brought in by former Academy Manager Geoff Harrop, having been on the books of Torquay United, whilst he was also part of the North Devon based Chivenor Development Centre. As Kingsley was a Scholar with Yeovil Town, the club would have been entitled to a fee for his services, although there isn't one mentioned in the arrangements. Southampton Academy Manager Matt Hale says of the deal:
"We are delighted to bring Kingsley in. He is a young goalkeeper with great potential, and someone we feel we can really work with and help develop over the next few years. He is a very switched on young lad and I am sure will be looking forward to coming in and working hard with (Southampton Goalkeeper Development Coach) Vince (Bartram) and the rest of the goalkeepers."
We wish Kingsley the best of luck for the future.
