Yeovil Town Reserves lost 1-0 at Cheltenham Town tonight. An Ashley Vincent penalty just before the half time break was enough to divide the sides after Glovers keeper Chris Weale was judged to have brought down Cheltenham's Gary Bradshaw.
The game was the proverbial one of two halves as Cheltenham dominated the first period, whilst the Glovers dominated the second. Chris Weale had to make saves from a deflected Damian Spencer effort as well as a long ranger from Ashley Vincent. Chances from Michael Wylde and Sam Foley went wide of the target as the home side dominated. But despite the pressure, it was actually Yeovil who came the closest to undoing the deadlock, with Andy Lindegaard's corner seeing Gavin McCallum's downward header superbly saved by home keeper Scott Brown. McCallum also later forced Brown into a good save at his near post.
Right on half time though, Weale struggled to clear a loose ball and his tangle with Bradshaw saw referee Mr Rodda point to the spot. Although Wealey guessed the right way, Ashley Vincent put the ball right into the corner to divide the sides at half time.
The Glovers made a double substitution early in the second half and this seemed to upset the home side, with them now caught on the back foot. Pablo Bastianini stretched Brown wide to his left to stop one creeping in at the corner and later provided a typical 25 yard strike that the keeper was forced to save again. Stephen Reed tried his luck from distance in the closing stages, but again Brown ensured that he kept a clean sheet. Despite the late pressure, Yeovil couldn't break the deadlock and so Cheltenham clinched the match by Vincent's first half penalty.
