Yeovil Town midfielder James Berrett has become the second player to suffer a significant pre-season injury that will keep him out of the club's friendly schedule in the run-up to the start of the 2014-15 season. The former Carlisle United player was one of a number of absentees for yesterday's match against Torquay United at Plainmoor. He has a 'thigh strain' which the Western Gazette indicate is likely to keep him out for a 'couple of weeks' according to manager Gary Johnson.
Based on Johnson's words, that would put the 25 year old out for the rest of July, although ought to give him a chance of returning just before the start of the League One matches. Also missing last night were midfielder Sam Foley and striker Kieffer Moore - there are no major concerns with that pair of players, and they are expected to return for Saturday's home match against Reading at Huish Park. Winger Joel Grant remains the other long term absentee, with his foot injury likely to keep him on the treatment table into the first couple of games of the season proper.
Other news from last night's match included that amateur trialist pair Billy Texeira and Mykel Beckley have departed the club. The duo came in on the back of a Budweiser Open Trials programme, but have not made it beyond the training ground before being told to look elsewhere.
