15 July 2014 : Torquay 2 Yeovil 2 : Gulls Twice Peg Back Glovers
Yeovil Town were twice pegged back in a pre-season friendly at Plainmoor this evening, as they drew 2-2 against Torquay United. Whilst an AJ Leitch-Smith penalty and a well worked goal from Kamel Chergui put them ahead against a Devon side that were relegated from the Football League at the end of last season, the Gulls kept up their strong record against Yeovil with goals from Courtney Cameron and Elliot Benyon levelling the game.

Tonight's friendly gave fans the first chance to see Chris Weale make his return in Yeovil Town colours, whilst Cardiff City loanee Ben Nugent - whose family live in Street - made his debut. The substitutes bench also featured six trialists, of which four were unnamed - merely referenced on the teamsheet by shirt numbers and the letters A, B, C and D. Those substitutes watched a fairly inert first period, of which the best chance came when Kevin Dawson fed Sam Hoskins, with the young striker hitting the inside of the post with his shot.

The game sprung into life nine minutes into the second half when Torquay winger Toby Ajala was judged to have fouled Liam Davis inside the box. Up stepped AJ Leitch-Smith who scored from the penalty spot to put Yeovil a goal up. But that lead was to only last four minutes, as Luke Young set up an equalising goal, finding Courtney Cameron, whose scuffed shot went across Chris Weale and in off the far post and over the line.

Eleven minutes before the end, Yeovil regained the lead as 'Trialist C' broke free in the box before cleverly setting up Kamel Chergui for an easy shot on goal, with the French-Algerian converting for a 2-1 scoreline. But Torquay once again quickly hit back - Niall Thompson's cross into the box was headed home by Elliot Benyon for the fourth and final goal of the evening.
