Yeovil Town Reserves breezed past Torquay United Reserves this afternoon in a behind closed doors friendly. The Glovers beat the Gulls 7-1 in a midweek friendly arranged to give their fringe players some match fitness during a week without first team football. Most significantly it marked the return of striker Paddy Madden, who has been missing for just over three weeks with a knee injury.
The Irishman's return certainly went well - he set up James Hayter to open up the scoring after he crossed into the box, with Hayter sending his header back across the keeper's path. Then Paddy Madden took advantage of a Sam Hoskins cross to double Yeovil's lead at the break.
Torquay pulled a goal back via a penalty as Damon Lathrope converted, after Joe Jones had fouled inside the box. Yeovil also got their own spot kick after Michael Ngoo was fouled, but his own attempt was saved by Gulls keeper Conor Thompson.
An hour in and Paddy Madden got his second goal of the game, with the Hayter/Madden partnership working well - James Hayter's shot was parried by the keeper, and Madden converted the loose ball on the rebound. Then an unnamed trialist scored from the edge of the box for Yeovil's fourth.
At that point both Madden and Hayter departed the field, having each played just over an hour's worth of football - a good workout particularly for Paddy in his efforts to come back from injury. But the goals kept coming against the young Gulls side, with a 25 yard Sam Hoskins free kick getting Yeovil's fifth, whilst a Hoskins corner saw a second trialist, who came on as a substitute head home the sixth. Michael Ngoo then made up for his earlier penalty miss by getting Yeovil's seventh goal of the day late on in the game, after he beat a couple of markers.
