Championship side Charlton Athletic have signed up former Yeovil Town loan striker Jonathan Obika. The 22 year old has joined the Addicks until the end of the 2012-13 season, having had a productive campaign playing for Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s during which he has become their top goalscorer with 15 goals.
Obika's loan deal will compensate in numbers for Charlton's decision to loan out Bradley Wright-Phillips to League One side Brentford until the end of the season. He will find two familiar faces at The Valley, with Charlton's Development Squad Manager being former Glovers assistant boss Nathan Jones, whilst Ben Roberts is a goalkeeping coach.
Obika scored twice in midweek in a 4-0 win for the Spurs Under-21 side, in a friendly against Jonesy's Charlton youngsters, and doubtless that, along with recommendations from Jones and Roberts will have been an influence in their decision-making. This will be the fifth time that Jones will have worked with the Spurs academy product, having taken him to Huish Park on four separate occasions whilst he was Assistant Manager for the Glovers.
