Tonight's opponents Preston North End arrive at Huish Park on a woeful run of form that has seen them slide dangerously close to the wrong end of the table. Currently in 17th place in the League One table, they are just five points off the bottom four, and having won just once since November 10th - and even that was a single goal victory over basement side Hartlepool United on New Year's Day.
Their problems lie largely in their failure to score goals. Whilst early on in the season, the Lilywhites were a fairly prolific side, they have netted just seven times in the last twelve matches, and have succeeded on scoring more than one goal in a game on only one occasion in the past three months. Their second top scorer - former Weymouth forward Stuart Beavon is rated as doubtful for tonight's match having missed their defeat at Colchester United on the weekend, whilst Akpo Sodje left the club at the turn of the year to sign for Scunthorpe United, having rejected an extension on his short term contract.
Preston's form on the road is a little better than their home form, but that wouldn't be too hard! They haven't won a League One game at Deepdale since September 29th 2012, when they gained a 3-2 win over Yeovil Town, and so will doubtless hope that counts for something going into tonight's fixture, particularly given they also knocked the Glovers out of the FA Cup in November.
The previous meeting at Huish Park between the two sides saw Yeovil Town triumph by a 2-1 scoreline, as a brace from Andy Williams won the match - a late Clarke Carlisle header saw the game take a late twist, particularly as then Glovers player Paul Huntington got sent off late on. But that merely balanced the sides up at 10 vs 10, with the Lilywhites having played 87 minutes with a man down, after Craig Morgan was sent off three minutes in for a professional foul.
