Yeovil Town striker Paddy Madden has been highlighted by Sky Sports as one of the 'Best Buys' of the January transfer window. With all trading having closed off ten days ago, they have picked out what they see as being some of the most influential signings of the month from all divisions, and the 22 year old, who has netted 15 times in 19 matches, including eight in his last five games, has been singled out.
In an article written before yesterday's match against Coventry City, they say of Madden's career at Yeovil Town:
"It's fair to say Madden is finding life much more to his liking at Yeovil than he ever did at Carlisle. The Irishman managed just a couple of goals during his couple of seasons at Brunton Park but his loan spell in Somerset reinvigorated him and now a permanent deal should ensure the good times continue. The striker has been bang in form recently, seven goals in his last four games more than proves that, and he's spoken recently of the Glovers' bid to finish in the play-offs. That is still possible and so is the 22-year-old's bid to finish the campaign as League One's top goalscorer."
The Football League have yet to announce their January 2013 nominations for Player of the Month, but it would be a major shock if Madden's six goals in three matches did not get him a League One nomination (along with his gaffer for the Managerial equivalent award!)
The full list of League One 'Best Buys' as featured in the Sky Sports article are as follows:
Matt Ritchie (Swindon to Bournemouth, £500,000)
Paddy Madden (Carlisle to Yeovil, undisclosed)
Nicky Ajose (Peterborough to Bury, loan)
Ben Chorley (Leyton Orient to Stevenage, free)
They also give secondary mentions to Leon Clarke (Charlton to Coventry, free); Jamie Murphy (Motherwell to Sheffield United, free); Chuks Aneke (Arsenal to Crawley, loan).
