22 November 2012 : Bray Brace Sees Ladies Defeat U's
Laura Bray grabbed two dramatic goals as Yeovil Town Ladies turned on the style to comfortably beat an impressive Colchester United Ladies 3-1 at Raleigh Grove on Sunday. Jade Radburn added the third goal with her second of the season, and her team maintained their fifth place in the Premier League table.

The Glovers came into the game on the back of some good form, and this translated well in this match as they clicked, laying into the opposition from the start, but into took until half time before Justine Lorton set up Laura Bray to give a deserved lead. Bray was on the score sheet again just after half time, set up by Helen Bleazard, but the visitors got one back four minutes later to keep the game alive. However, Yeovil were in no mood to give the game away, and their dominance was rewarded in the final minute when Bray set up Jade Radburn to head the ball into the back of the net, prompting raptures of celebration throughout the ground.

"It was an excellent effort and result from the ladies this weekend," joint manager Nigel Williams said after the game. "When we went to Colchester earlier in the season we were the better team, but were unable to capitalise on the pressure we put on them that day, coming away with a point from their ground. This match started in the same vein loads of pressure and possession, but our sites were not set early on with some wayward shots. Believe me, Colchester are a good team, they are experienced in this league and we had to work hard to break them down."

"Our game plan was to use our wide players and attack the flanks, and we peppered their goal a number of times from great deliveries from the left and right. Our first goal came at the right time, on approximately forty minutes with a delivery from the left, and Laura Bray meeting it and scoring with her head at the near post. We deserved the lead at half time, and we told the girls that although they could congratulate themselves, the game was not over and we had to play the same way from the start of the second half."

"We have played too many games this season where we should have won and let them go. Only us to blame for that, but this one was different. We have learnt from those games and went straight out and hit Colchester again. This time from the right Helen (Bleazard) played Laura (Bray) through after a great angled run took her past a static back four. Laura as cool as you like, lobbed the ‘keeper from just inside the 18 yard box."

"The next part of the game showed that we have grown in this league. We were under the cosh for about twenty minutes after our second goal and gave them back a poor goal really. They delivered a poor cross from the right and we didn’t take responsibility for clearing it. Their left winger came in at the back post and tapped the ball home to make it 2-1."

"However, we grouped together again and remained focused to continue playing our game, and kept the ball when we should have. Our passing was good and we played a patient game allowing us to draw Colchester out of there defensive zone to chase the ball. We made a change on seventy minutes, bringing on Grace Rapp, as a precaution for Stace (Pearson) who has had a slight injury we have nursed through. This saw Laura Bray move to the left. After scoring two she then set up Jade (Radburn) for the third goal to finish off the game with a brilliant delivery. Jade came in at the far post and stooping low she headed the ball into the net, and the place went mad!"

"This was a brilliant three points, and a well-earned win by the girls. Sarah and I were very proud of them this weekend. The squad are us a nice headache to have in selection at this time. We have some great players fighting for places, and everyone knows that we are in a competitive league with a competitive squad. This gives us an advantage in my opinion, because the team works harder knowing that they have someone waiting in the wings. We continue to take one step at a time building confidence in the team and getting them to believe in themselves, and in what we are aiming to achieve for Yeovil Town Ladies."

"I hope that we will continue to see the crowds grow. It was good to see the high attendance this weekend at Sherborne FC, and we would encourage everyone to keep looking for our fixture announcements and attend the games. The Girls responded to a good crowd this weekend, and a huge thank you to the attending supporters."
