Officials for Yeovil Town's home League One match against AFC Bournemouth have been published by the Football League. The match takes place on Saturday 8th September 2012 at Huish Park, with a 3.00p.m. kick-off. The man in charge of the fixture will be referee Iain Williamson (Berkshire).
Although Mr Williamson has a reputation in the Football League for being rather card-happy, our experiences of him have not been too bad at Football League level, and we've even agreed with some of the decisions he's made regarding our own players dismissals.
The most recent match he took charge of was the October 2011 away match at Stevenage that saw us draw 0-0. No complaints about the red card issued to Luke Ayling for an on-the-line hand ball, whilst his later call-up by the FA was at the instructions of the Fourth Official, rather than Mr Williamson. In fact, he did us a mini favour of sorts in that Ayling's infringment stopped their opponents from scoring a goal, with the referee failing to allow an advantage that saw the ball almost immediately hit the back of the net on the rebound. An error of judgement if you were a Stevenage fan, but as Marek Stech saved the eventual penalty, and we held on with ten men, we can't complain too loudly about it!
Prior to that, we had him for the League One home match against Exeter City during the 2010-11 season. We lost the game by a 1-3 scoreline, and Mr Williamson had nothing to do with that - if anything he ruled that a Grecians penalty appeal was deserving of a free kick in the other direction when it could have easily gone against us. Prior to that, he took charge of the home game against Leicester City all the way back in January 2009. The match was live on Sky Sports and was a booking-free affair, where certainly the Foxes 0-2 away win was unaffected by the officials, who had a quiet game.
Before that, you have to go all the way back to an April 2007 home game against Rotherham United, and prior to that an away game against Barnsley along with earlier home matches against Lincoln City and Torquay United. The Lincoln match is significant in that it was our final game at League Two level. We have had him several times during our non-league days as well, with his promotion to League level happening 12 months before we got there.
Our past reports of him are that he's got through each game relatively quietly without ruffling too many feathers, although we've noticed around the internet that he's upset people in a lot of other games. Maybe we catch him on his good days.
Mr Williamson will be assisted by Timothy Wood (Gloucestershire) and Paul Rees (Somerset). The Fourth Official will be Kevin Johnson (Somerset).
