With pre-season training for the 2012-13 campaign due to start next Monday, it now seems certain that manager Gary Johnson will be unveiling some new players soon. The new first team squad will commence activities on Monday 2nd July, with a relatively small squad on their books, but one that is expected to grow shortly.
The Western Gazette website indicates that the expectation is for "four or five" new players to be unveiled between now and July 2nd. with a few loose ends left to tie up for that to happen. Given most player contracts at existing clubs run out on June 30th, there's no doubt that's a key date, whilst the other factor will be that players living outside the West Country will be arriving in the area to move into accommodation, thus triggering medicals and signatures on contracts that will finalise such arrangements.
Johnson has told the paper that he has no reason to suspect that there are any issues with those he has provisional agreement with, but does not want to give any clues as to their identity until everything is sorted:
"It is not something where I think we are going to lose these players, it is just a bit more in the detail. That is why I cannot say who it is to anyone because it is sometimes these loose ends that prove dangerous. I do not think I need to panic on it, it is just something that is not ready to be announced just yet."
What we do know is that attacking midfielder Sam Foley, winger Keanu Marsh-Brown and striker Reuben Reid will be arriving, whilst Oxford City defender James Clarke has been invited to trial with the club, along with midfielder Michael Woods, who played for the club on non-contract terms last season.
