23 March 2012 : Ladies Ready For Their University Challenge
Yeovil Town Ladies come into this weekend's South West Combination League match with the University of Portsmouth requiring just one point to secure the championship and promotion back to the FA Women's Premier League.

Unbeaten in the league this season. the girls will be in confident mood, but as joint manager Sarah Lawler explained, they will come into the game treating it as any other, with their feet planted firmly on the ground.

"After all the hard work this season, we cannot afford to let it slip at the eleventh hour," she said. "We have to approach the game in our usual professional manner, and do the job as required. We are not thinking about the potential glories of winning this game. All of that is out of our heads, with us instead focussed on the game itself, and victory, We have three games left this season, and we want to come away with the maximum nine points."

Eighth place Portsmouth come into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat at bottom club Keynsham Development. They have lost their last five games, but as fellow manager Nigel Williams explained, they will be no pushovers.

"We beat them 3-1 at their place back in October," he said. "The score line suggests a comfortable victory, but the reality was very different, with them giving us a tough test. They are a strong and robust side, who are difficult to break down. We came away from that game knowing that we had had a game on our hands.

"We will have to work hard on Sunday to get another result against them, and we will have to remain focussed throughout, and be at the top of our game. It would be a massive mistake on Sunday to think that all we have to do is turn up and go through the motions. We do not want to have to come into those last two games against Havant needing to get anything from them. That would be unnecessary pressure on us. We want to wrap it up this Sunday, but to do so we need to be sharp, we need to be on our game, and we need to be professional."

The Ladies have played some wonderful football this season, scored goals galore and have piled on the points. This has been achieved through good preparation, hard work and know-how. However, it has also been achieved with a very hard working twelfth man - the enthusiasm of the supporters, who have played a massive part in this successes achieved.

"Our supporters have been incredible," Lawler said. "They have been at their largest in numbers this season, and certainly at their noisiest, both home and away. They have been our inspiration, and have driven us along. For that we are so grateful, and for them we would love to win some silverware this season.

"As a team we have pushed towards our season goals, and we are nearly there. But one last push is needed, so we would ask Yeovil Town supporters to come along to Raleigh Grove in their numbers on Sunday and support the girls. If you have not yet watched womenís football, why not make it your first game. It could be the first of many! Like Gary Johnsonís menís team we play good attacking football, have a never say die attitude, and I like to think that the crowd are well entertained. We would love to see a big crowd on Sunday."

Yeovil Town Ladies take on the University of Portsmouth at Raleigh Grove this Sunday, 25 March 2012, the match kicking off at 2.00p.m. The ground will be open two hours previous to that, with refreshments and full bar facilities available to supporters. Admission prices are £2.00 for adults and £1.00 to concessions. Please come and support the girls.
