Yeovil Town Ladies took another big step towards claiming the league title this afternoon - without kicking a ball. Whilst the Glovers had the weekend off, their main rivals Havant and Waterlooville were playing one of two catch-up games, as they travelled to play Swindon Town Ladies.
The end result was a shock 4-1 defeat for the Hampshire side, thus maintaining Yeovil's 12 point lead at the top of the South West Combination Women's Football League, but crucially with Havant having now used up one of their games in hand. That means that Yeovil Town Ladies will win the title and secure promotion if they get a point from next weekend's home game against University of Portsmouth, or if Havant drop points in their home game against Gloucester City and Forest Green Rovers fail to win at Chesham United.
Next weekend's match against the University of Portsmouth takes place on Sunday 26th March, at Raleigh Grove, home of Sherborne Town FC, kick-off 2.00p.m. Needless to say, it would be great if as many Glovers fans can get down to Sherborne next weekend - if things go to plan you could witness a Yeovil Town side gaining promotion.
If things don't go to plan next weekend, dates for the two matches against Havant and Waterlooville have been arranged for dates in April as shown below.
Forthcoming Fixtures: (key games scheduled)
25/03/2012 : Havant and Waterlooville vs Gloucester City

08/04/2012 : Havant and Waterlooville vs Yeovil Town
22/04/2012 : Yeovil Town vs Havant and Waterlooville
1. Yeovil Town Ladies (P15 Pts41 GD+36), 2. Havant and Waterlooville (P14 Pts29 GD+21), 3. Forest Green Rovers (P14 Pts29 GD+29).
Finally congratulations are due to Yeovil Town Ladies Under-16s. They have clinched their League title this weekend, by beating Wells Under-16s by a 2-0 scoreline. Given this acts as a feeder into the senior Ladies team, it suggests that they will be well equipped in the years to come.
