Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson hopes that being back on home turf this coming Saturday will give his side an edge as they go into the first of two potentially season-defining matches inside a few days. On Saturday, Scunthorpe United are the visitors, whilst Tuesday night sees the Glovers head on the road with Wycombe Wanderers their opponents.
With The Iron two points behind Yeovil in the League One table but with two games in hand, the game at Huish Park could be crucial for both sides. With Wycombe sandwiched between both clubs and a point behind Yeovil, the table could look very different by the time we reach 10.00p.m. on Tuesday night.
Concentrating on the first of those two games, Johnson wants the Glovers supporters to help his side past Scunthorpe. Whilst he was at Bristol City as manager, Gary launched a 'Red and White Day' - now comes a Green and White Day - a call for supporters to dress up in as much green'n'white clothing, face paint or hair colour as they can manage. He has told BBC Somerset that giving his players such backing should help inspire them:
"We're back at home now, and we can be more confident at home for the simple reason that we've had two good results at home. We're in credit; the supporters have been great. We're just asking everyone now, around the perimeters of the pitch, to up it slightly and be colourful. I'll try to pass that onto the lads, so that they come out absolutely raring, and making sure that we pick up these three points."
Johnson admits that there is a lot at stake for the next two fixtures, but adds that Saturday's game is the most important given that he wants to make home advantage count for his side:
"This is a real special one now. We've got ourselves into a decent position, and we can kick on a little bit. We don't want to be dragged back into the bottom four and we need to kick on. The next two games are cup finals, as there's the Scunthorpe game and the Wycombe one. But this is the home one and it's one where we've got to do everything that we possibly can to make sure that the boys are in a positive mood and a happy mood, because the supporters are 100 percent behind them."
Yeovil Town's Community Trust plan to use the club's astroturf pitch to provide some coaching for young supporters on the day of the game, with any fans holding a junior matchday ticket being invited to receive coaching from some of the club's Community Trust staff, whilst it is expected that some of the club's first team coaching staff will make an appearance before they disappear to prepare for the main task against Scunthorpe. Any supporters wishing to take advantage of that should be at the ground before 1.00p.m. on Saturday.
