Officials for Saturday's League One match between Sheffield Wednesday and Yeovil Town have been published. The match takes place at Hillsborough on Saturday 4th February 2012, with a 3.00p.m. kick-off. The man in charge will be referee Mark Brown (East Yorkshire). Mr Brown has looked after a Yeovil Town football match on two previous occasions, and the good news is that both of them have ended in 1-0 away wins. A hat-trick please, Mr Referee?
The most recent of those was the 1-0 win at Prenton Park over Tranmere Rovers in February 2011. Possibly one of the worst matches for entertainment you'll have set your eyes on in recent years, although Oli Johnson's wonder strike was worth the journey. Mr Brown didn't have a lot to do on the day - just one booking early on, and not much out there to raise the hackles.
Mr Brown's other game in charge came in November 2010, when he saw our 1-0 win over Rushden and Diamonds in the FA Cup. This match brought that rare scenario of a referee gifting the Glovers the key decision in the game - namely the winning goal scored by Andy Williams. Even the most green-tinted of Glovers would admit that Dean Bowditch was probably interfering with play at the time the ball was hit towards goal, but after a lengthy consultation with his linesman, referee Brown awarded the goal. Rushden were furious, and probably with some justification.
In his official profile, he credits a number of people for having got him into refereeing, including "my ex-wife for moving out so I could concentrate on my football and not have to listen to her moaning all day and night". Given he's now in his second season as a Football League referee, one wonders if he is now hearing any less moaning on his Saturday afternoons?
Mr Brown will be assisted by Mark Griffiths (South Yorkshire) and Keith Lawson (South Humberside). The Fourth Official will be Daniel Meeson (Staffordshire).
