We're rather used to the bookies having a bit of a downer on Yeovil Town - this summer they appear to have excelled themselves. We're used to being listed amongst the wider odds quoted for promotion and outright winners for League One, but on this occasion, as we prepare to move into the 2011-12 season, the betting shops are listing the Glovers as firm outsiders.
Taking the odds displayed for clubs to win the League One title outright, Yeovil Town are currently given the equal or outright widest odds by every bookmaker, with Bet365 (100/1), SkyBet (66/1), SportingBet (66/1), BlueSquare (80/1), 888Sport (80/1) and BWin (66/1) all putting the Glovers out on their own as the least likely side to win the division. The best odds amongst the 16 bookmakers we considered are Bet365 at 100/1. Their full odds are as follows:
League One Outright Odds: (Bet365) Huddersfield, Sheffield Wednesday 11/2; Preston North End 6/1; Charlton Athletic 8/1; Sheffield United 9/1; Milton Keynes Dons, Brentford 14/1; Scunthorpe United 16/1; Chesterfield 25/1; AFC Bournemouth 28/1; Leyton Orient, Notts County 33/1; Colchester United, Carlisle United, Exeter City 40/1; Rochdale, Wycombe Wanderers, Oldham Athletic, Walsall 50/1; Bury, Hartlepool United 66/1; Stevenage, Tranmere Rovers 80/1, Yeovil Town 100/1
If you're thinking that maybe winning the title outright is perhaps stretching it a little bit too much, then it's pretty much the same sort of story, with Yeovil Town ranked as 25/1 outsiders by Bet365, BlueSquare, 888Sport and Coral, with the first three bookies putting the Glovers as the widest odds outright. Again there isn't a single bookie that gives another club wider odds on promotion.
It won't be too surprising to note that Yeovil Town are outright favourites to be relegated as well. The 15/8 price that is offered by Bet365, SkyBet, Victor Chandler, BlueSquare, Stan James, 888 Sport and Coral is the best price you'll find amongst the 16 bookmakers, with the majority listing the Glovers on their own with the narrowest odds.
As far as the Golden Boot is concerned, given for League One's top goalscorer, the likes of Bradley Wright-Phillips, Jordan Rhodes, Clinton Morrison, Ched Evans and Clayton Donaldson are the bookies tips to come out on top. If you want Yeovil Town players odds, then you're struggling, as most don't offer public odds at all. Former Everton academy striker Kieran Agard is 66/1 (SkyBet) to grab the Golden Boot, whilst Andy Williams is 80/1 (BlueSquare and 888 Sport) - if you want other odds, you're better off approaching the bookies themselves.
Hopefully the bookies will be as wrong about the 2011-12 season as they've been for the previous six years.
