Former Yeovil Town trialist Kiernan Hughes-Mason has moved further down the West Country in search of a contract. The former Millwall striker, who played for the Glovers in their opening pre-season friendly against Dorchester Town, has turned up at Plymouth Argyle, where he is in the starting line-up for their friendly against Bristol City tonight.
Whilst on the subject of former players, trialists and targets, former midfielder Ritchie Jones has dropped out of League One and signed a two year contract with Bradford City this week. Having worked his way through Hartlepool United and Oldham Athletic since leaving Huish Park, the 24 year old now moves on to Valley Parade for the 2011-12 season.
Meanwhile former central defender Curtis Ujah is training with Exeter City in the hope of earning a contract with them. Ujah is still only 22 years old, but has had a bit of a torrid time with injuries since leaving Huish Park in December 2007.
Dropping into non-league football, playing for Boreham Wood, he was putting in good enough performances at that time for Watford to sit up and take notice; inviting him to a Reserve Team game. Unfortunately Ujah suffered a serious knee injury during that match, which put him out for the season, and then on his pre-season comeback for Boreham, he suffered a facial injury.
Now he is with the Grecians, and played in their midweek pre-season friendly at Mangotsfield. Boss Paul Tisdale says that whilst there is no offer on the table for Ujah that he is keeping an open mind:
"We're just helping him get back to fitness, but if that means we benefit from it in the end we'll have to wait and see. At the moment there are no plans for him to move into our first team. He's spending some time with us, but at the moment it's no more than that."
Finally on the subject of two players Yeovil were linked with in the past, striker Rene Howe has penned a two year deal with League Two side Torquay United. Howe was strongly linked with a loan move to Huish Park whilst he was on the books of Peterborough United, although nothing came off.
More recently, 26 year old former Aberdeen central defender Zander Diamond has signed for League One side Oldham Athletic this week. It wasn't clear if manager Terry Skiverton actually had any interest in the player, but certainly the message boards of three Scottish Premier League clubs were convinced he was coming our way. That all fell stony dead when he turned up at Boundary Park - he's now signed a one year deal there.
