Yeovil Town have confirmed their fifth signing of the summer, ahead of the 2011-12 season. The latest signing is Anthony Edgar who has been on trial at the club during pre-season. Anthony is a midfielder and a product of West Ham United's academy system, but was released by them over the summer.
Anthony is 20 years old, and was born in Newham, London. He made two FA Cup substitute appearances for them before being released in the summer of 2011. His Football League experience came during an October 2009 three game loan period with AFC Bournemouth. He is a cousin of Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermaine Defoe.
He attended St. Bonaventure's Roman Catholic Comprehensive School in Forest Gate and enrolled into West Ham's Academy set-up at the age of nine. going on to clock up 11 years with the Hammers. Anthony broke into West Ham's main Academy side during the 2007-08 season, making 74 appearances at that level and Reserve Team level across three seasons, before being given a full professional contract at Upton Park for the 2010-11 season. West Ham describe him as "A lively attacker who can play on either wing or through the middle ... a talented and confident young player ... a star at Academy and reserve-team levels.
Anthony joins midfielder Gavin Williams, defender Bondz N'Gala, striker Kieran Agard and midfielder Dominic Blizzard as arrivals at Huish Park this season, with a further loan signing expected sometime during next week. The team are due to spend the weekend in Cornwall, where they will play Truro City in a pre-season friendly tomorrow, hence this ought to be the last signing until they return from their trip down the A30.
