Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton has suggested that it may take him during the majority of the month of July to formulate the squad that he needs to start the 2011-12 season. The Glovers boss has targeted the two pre-season friendlies against Cardiff City (July 26th) and Southampton (July 30th) at the end of the month as being the point at which he will have his squad ready.
The expectation is that the early part of pre-season will see a lot of trialists come and go in the club, with just two new arrivals in midfielder Gavin Williams and former Everton striker Kieran Agard, although a third unidentified player is due to sign on Monday.
Skiverton has told this week's Western Gazette that a lot of players that he has been chasing have been out of his price range. However, he expects their demands to drop around mid-July and therefore that a number of additional players will start to become available:
"I will be casting my eye over quite a lot of new people but by the time that we play Cardiff City and Southampton my team will be in place. There have been phone calls going on all summer and I have been talking to numerous players and agents. There are a lot of people out of our price range at the moment but they might not be out of our price range come July 14. It was that first week of July that we met Dean Bowditch and I can remember Adam Virgo coming in. I have been in this situation before and Iím comfortable with it."
For those who need their memories jogging, Dean Bowditch was first mentioned on July 13th 2009 as a trialist just before the club travelled to play in the North Devon tournament. A year later Adam Virgo was an arrival on the first day of pre-season training last summer.
