Ciderspace News Page : Glovers To Start And End 2011-12 Campaign On The Road
17 June 2011 : Glovers To Start And End 2011-12 Campaign On The Road
Yeovil Town will both start and end their 2011-12 season on the road, with away trips against familiar opposition. The Glovers will open up the season on August 6th 2011 with a journey to West London, where they will face Brentford at Griffin Park. That will then be followed by the midweek Carling Cup trip to play Exeter City. On the following Saturday, the Glovers will play their first home match, on August 13th, when Oldham Athletic are the visitors to Huish Park.

The season ends with a trip to play Huddersfield Town at the Galpharm Stadium on May 5th - the ground at which Yeovil secured their 2005-06 season status, denying the Terriers automatic promotion in the process. The final home match of the 2011-12 season is against Chesterfield, with Nathan Smith having to wait a while for his return to Huish Park after joining the Spireites.

Most Glovers fans will be visiting three new grounds for the coming season - these come on September 10th, when they travel to play Preston North End, whilst on November 5th, Chesterfield's new B2Net Stadium will be the destination. The trio of new grounds is completed on January 7th when Sheffield United will host their first ever Football League match against Yeovil Town.

The Christmas period will see little in the way of travelling for those based in Yeovil, with home games against Charlton Athletic and AFC Bournemouth, whilst the only away match comes with the trip to St James Park to play Exeter City on January 2nd.

Midweekers are often a problem for football supporters - both games against Wycombe Wanderers and Milton Keynes Dons have been given Tuesday night slots, whilst the home game against and Leyton Orient and the away match at Charlton Athletic will also be night games.

Given the harsh winter that we had across the turn of the year leading into 2011, it's somewhat surprising that two of those midweekers have already been loaded into March, in the lead up to Easter, meaning that there are already seven fixtures in March and five in April, with the latter including the Easter weekend. Hopefully this time round, there won't be the fixture chaos experienced during the season just gone.

Another problematic period for those who travel to away matches could be the month of September, which sees three petrol-heavy trips up north, as Tranmere Rovers, Preston North End and Scunthorpe United play host to the Glovers.

The full fixture list is linked below, including the full set of 2011-12 pre-season friendlies, and will be maintained throughout the coming season. As usual it can be accessed via the Matches menu link at the top of each page, or by heading to the foot of the Forthcoming Events section of the Ciderspace home page.
