Officials for Yeovil Town's home match against AFC Bournemouth have been announced. The game takes place on Saturday 23rd April at Huish Park with a 3.00p.m. kick-off. The man in charge of proceedings will be Steve Tanner (Somerset).
Despite being a pretty local referee, Mr Tanner has not had too many trips to Huish Park, and even then usually for lower key matches such as a pre-season friendly against Portsmouth or a County Cup match against Taunton Town.
As far as the Football League is concerned, he has only dealt with two matches involving us since we moved up to League One, with both coming during last season. The last meeting was the final match of the 2009-10 season, which was an away trip to the Withdean Stadium, where we lost 1-0 to Brighton and Hove Albion. In what was a fairly sleepy end of season game, there was nothing to raise the hackles, or disturb the slumbers of the supporters in the ground who were probably already planning their summer holidays. Or at least the players seemed to be at times, in a fairly meaningless encounter. One yellow card to Luke Ayling, and that was it.
Earlier that season, we met up with Mr Tanner in January 2010 for the home match against Exeter City. In what was a fairly competitive West Country derby, he gave us no grief to speak from and came out of the match having raised his yellow card just the one - to an Exeter player. Prior to that, he took charge of an England Under 18s match against Holland back in March 2007.
Going backwards in time, there's only a couple more meetings to speak of in the Football League. Home wins over Cambridge United and Boston United in 2003 and 2005 prompted nothing too vicious to say about him, and certainly nothing that warrants a mention given how much time has passed since then.
Mr Tanner has already done a game involving Bournemouth this season - he took charge of their 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient in February earlier this year, where he dished out just one yellow card to an Orient player, and none to the Cherries.
Mr Tanner will be assisted by Charles Breakspear (Surrey) and Adam Watts (Worcestershire). The Fourth Official will be Richard Corp (Somerset).
