League One side Charlton Athletic have appointed 41 year old former full-back Chris Powell as their new manager. Powell has left his position as first team coach at Leicester City to take up his first front line post, apart from a short caretaker position at the Walkers Stadium earlier this season.
Powell is well known to Charlton fans, having made over 250 appearances across three spells for the Addicks. His playing career also included Crystal Palace, Aldershot, Southend, Derby, West Ham and Watford before completing his playing career with the Foxes, where he took on a coaching position.
The former left-back also has five England international appearances to his name and was Chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association for five years, stepping down last year after he retired as a player. He has been given a three and a half year contract at The Valley, replacing Phil Parkinson, who was shown the door earlier this month.
