Ciderspace News Page : The Richest People In The Football League
7 October 2010 : The Richest People In The Football League
Football magazine FourFourTwo has published a list of the 100 richest people in British football. Covering players, Chairmen and club owners along with other associated personnel, they attempt to consider which clubs have got a Roman Abramovich hidden away in the boardroom.

Whilst much of the list concentrates on where the money really is - the Premier League - a number of those also lie in the Football League. The full list can be read here, but realising our interest lies more in the Football League divisions, here's a spliced out summary of our real competitors and the magazine's estimate of how much is currently in their estate. League One money-men are highlighted in bold:

98. Jimmy Rowlinson (20m, Crewe Alexandra board member)

76. Martin Morgan (32m, Swansea City director)

32. John Madejski (200m, Reading owner)
31. Lord Iliffe (240m, Walsall shareholder)
29. Martin Arbib (325m, Swindon Town co-owner)
25. Terry Bramall (450m, Doncaster Rovers director)
23. Trevor Hemmings (500m, Preston North End majority shareholder)
22. Marcus Evans (510m, Ipswich Town majority shareholder)
21. Steve Lansdown (516m, Bristol City chairman)
20. Stephen Rubin (520m, Watford shareholder)
17. Vincent Tan (765m, Cardiff City major shareholder)
13. Lord Ashcroft (1.25b, Watford major shareholder - also Spurs)
10. Bernie Ecclestone (1.4b, QPR co-owner)
5. Liebherr Family (estate of Markus Liebherr) (3b, Southampton owners)
2. Lakshmi Mittal (17b, QPR co-owner)

Of course the devil is in the detail, with one or two of those listed as merely 'shareholders' being those with a smallish stake in their club. The FourFourTwo article gives more background on each individual and their stake in the club. Those who are directors, major/majority shareholders or outright owners are more likely to sink their money into the club. Needless to say, no-one from Yeovil Town appears in the Rich List!
