Saturday's officials for the away trip to Walsall at the Bescot Stadium have been announced. The man in charge will be referee Craig Pawson (South Yorkshire). We've only had Mr Pawson twice so far, with him being one of the newer officials on the circuit.
The first of those was the February 2009 fixture against Peterborough United - Russell Slade's last game in charge and a 3-1 win. Apart from being on a high after that result which may have affected our mood, our view of Mr Pawson was a positive one, even going so far as to recognise his performance later on in the week on this news page as "excellent". Those who have seen many of Ciderspace's Ref-Rants would realise that is a definite rare event.
Mr Pawson also took charge of the incredible 3-3 draw against Norwich City in December 2009. He had a reasonable match, but missed a chance to award the Glovers a spot-kick and a likely red card for Canaries defender Gary Doherty; a decision that left Glovers striker Dean Bowditch not very amused.
Mr Pawson's career high so far was refereeing the Conference National Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium in May 2008 between Cambridge United and Exeter City. He is a relatively new official at this level, having only been promoted during the summer of 2008, hence why our paths have not crossed too often.
Mr Pawson will be assisted by Rob Merchant (Staffordshire) and Neil Radford (Worcester). The Fourth Official will be Daniel Meeson (Staffordshire).
