Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton this week has signed up goalkeeper John Sullivan and defender/midfielder Rob Kiernan on a month's loan each this week from Millwall and Watford respectively, but still he is after more players. Last week, the Glovers boss said he had set himself a target of making two more signings before the season started, but having achieved that, he has stated that this will not be his final squad for the 2010-11 season, with more targets being sought.
The obvious concern to supporters was that Sullivan and Kiernan would represent the final signings for a Yeovil Town first team squad that even with the two new arrivals includes only 15 players outside the two coaching staff members who are registered as players. Skiverton has told BBC Somerset that he believes that up to three players could still sign up by the time Yeovil play Leyton Orient in 10 days time:
"I'm expecting one or two to maybe drop before the end of this weekend, and then hopefully maybe one more for the weeked after that. But if we go into the season with what we've got then I'll be happy, but I'll still be out there trying to get in one or two, because we've still got one or two spaces yet to fill."
There has been speculation, in the light of Yeovil Town's pre-season friendly against Manchester United Reserves that the Glovers might take advantage of a new contact through their Reserve Team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær, although this appears to be based upon the contact the Yeovil management team had with him the night before the pre-season friendly. Darren Way told the Western Morning News that the meeting had gone well:
"We were at the hotel for hours talking to Ole (Gunnar Solskjær) on Friday night and I take my hat off to him, he is a top guy. If we can work with them in any way, then we are more than willing to have some of their players down to gain experience. They have seen the way we play and the style we play. We have shown what we are about as a club. It has been a good day for them (on Saturday), a good day for us, a good workout. I hope they enjoyed their time in Somerset."
Solskjær himself has told the paper that he could certainly see opportunities for young players in and around his Reserve side to come to places like Huish Park:
"We had a good chat (last Friday) because they came to the hotel and we had a good conversation. We are always looking for our players to learn and reserve football is different. Here, if you are playing League One, you have to get three points and then again in the next game because maybe the manager's job is on the line and when they play reserve league, it is all about development. When they are ready to go, we are looking for the right club for them."
Of course it doesn't necessarily follow that any of Skiverton's current targets lie with the Red Devils. If he wants a left-back (for example) it relies upon that club having a suitable left-back that they are looking to put out on loan. However, as an additional mobile phone number in Skiverton's address book, it would seem more than likely that eventually he and Solskjær will get together again in some capacity.
