Wednesday evening's opponents Bristol City look to be doing a whole load of squad juggling this week that could leave them in a state of flux ahead of the game. Centre-back Jamie McCombe has already left for Huddersfield Town, whilst right-back Bradley Orr was not used in their weekend defeat at Aldershot due to what is expected to be his impending exit from Ashton Gate to Queens Park Rangers. Meanwhile midfielder Paul Hartley is looking for a move back to Scotland, with Hearts his expected destination.
City also have Nicky Maynard and Danny Haynes out through injury. They are attempting to introduce fresh blood; the Bristol Evening Post suggest that Jonathan Stead may arrive at the club this week. Glovers fans may recall Stead as a Huddersfield Town striker just after the Glovers entered the Football League. He is currently at Ipswich Town with the BEP believing a fee of between £200,000 and £250,000 has been accepted - the only snag is that Stead will need to accept a pay cut to head to Bristol and so talks on personal terms, expected today, will be crucial. City had hoped to bring back Liam Rosenior to their club, but that now looks unlikely after he backed out of a chance to play for the Robins on Saturday.
Bristol City play League One side Exeter City tonight at St James Park, and with Yeovil Town as opposition on Wednesday and Premier League newcomers Blackpool on Saturday, the four games in eight days whilst their squad is changing so rapidly may not be quite what new manager Steve Coppell wanted. Their line-up for the match at Huish Park could well depend upon how things go tonight in Devon and whether the likes of Stead sign on the dotted line in time.
They currently have former Grays Athletic striker Charlie Taylor on trial for them and so he may well feature at Huish Park on Wednesday, although many Glovers eyes will be looking out for former midfielder Lee Johnson and playmaker Gavin Williams who are both on City's books. Lee spent time on loan last season at Derby County, whilst of course Gavin had a rather successful loan spell with the Glovers. Both will doubtless be keen to prove to their new management that their future lies at Ashton Gate. Defender Liam Fontaine is a third player on City's books who should make a return to his former club on Wednesday.
Wednesday night's match kicks off at 7.45p.m. at Huish Park, with tickets available in advance from the Huish Park Ticket Office and on the day of the game.
