Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton will help one of the region's longest serving managers say farewell to his club tonight. Skiverton will pull on a Tiverton Town shirt in a match to celebrate the managerial career of Martyn Rogers, who spent 21 seasons at Ladysmead before stepping down over this summer.
Tiverton's opponents will be Premier League newcomers Blackpool, with boss Ian Holloway sending down a full first team for the occasion. Tiverton plan to load their side with a host of former players, with Scott Rogers, Chris Holloway and Kevin Nancekivell in their line-up along with Cheltenham Town goalkeeping coach Steve Book and long serving Tiverton captain Nathan Rudge who have just left the Devon side. Rogers will be in the dugout, whilst his successor Chris Vinnicombe will take to the field.
Whilst the spotlight will be on Rogers, the game will also be Tiverton captain Nathan Rudge's last game for the club. Having been at Ladysmead for eight years he is also leaving the club. Martyn Rogers said that would make the evening an emotional night for both of them:
"I'm really looking forward to it. It will bring a good end to what's been a fantastic time with Tiverton. It'll be an opportunity to say cheerio to the fans and I think Nathan's (Rudge) looking forward to that aspect of it, too. It could be emotional. I think it'll be a night to remember for everyone. Blackpool will bring down their full-strength side. It's the first competitive game for them before they start their first Premiership season, so it's an exciting time to play them. Hopefully we'll get some numbers down there — to watch Blackpool as much as anything. Ollie's (manager Ian Holloway) promised a full side so it's not like a lot of kids will be coming down. It's not every day you get a Premiership side here."
Anyone wishing to grab a rare sight of Terry Skiverton wearing another club's shirt should head to Ladysmead tonight for a 7.30p.m. kick-off.
