Former Yeovil Town loan midfielder Simon Gillett has signed for Championship side Doncaster Rovers. The 24 year old has put pen to paper on a two year deal at the Keepmoat Stadium tonight after a successful two month loan spell last season from League One side Southampton. When the Saints released him at the end of the 2009-10 season, Donny moved to take him to Yorkshire permanently.
Gillett only made 31 appearances in five seasons for Southampton. He had a four game loan spell with Yeovil Town in September 2007 at a time when he had yet to make a first team start for the Saints. However, the Oxford-born player had already been a part of the Blackpool side that beat the Glovers at Wembley in May 2007, arriving at Huish Park four months later as cover for a succession of midfield injuries. Since leaving Huish Park, he broke into the Saints first team, but his 11 game loan spell at the Keepmoat during the tail end of 2009 was to provide a pointer to his future career.
