Officials for tomorrow's League One match between Brentford and Yeovil Town have been announced. The man in charge will be referee Graham Horwood (Bedfordshire). He was promoted to the Football League's referees list for the start of the 2007-08 season and so has now had just under three years of officiating at this level.
We've only had Mr Horwood twice before as a match referee. The first was for the 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in December 2007 at Huish Park. We were more than happy with his first half performance, but felt that the longer the game went on, the more he seemed to be conscious of the match scoreline - booking Yeovil players for apparent time-wasting that had been no worse than offences committed by Brighton players whilst the score had been level, and awarding the Seagulls a series of controversial decisions. As such, he seemed to be getting a little too wrapped up in the game, rather than letting it flow as he had done so during the first period.
The second and most recent was the January 2009 1-0 win over Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road. Not the best of games to watch by any stretch of the imagination, but all of that was forgotten when Gavin Tomlin's 94th minute goal sent the away support slightly mad. We managed to recover our composure enough to remember that Mr Horwood had "an excellent game" - see, we do praise them sometimes!
We were due to have Mr Horwood for a home League One match against Stockport County in September 2009, earlier this season, but by the time everyone got to Huish Park, Mr Horwood had been replaced for an unspecified reason.
Mr Horwood will be assisted by Richard Kendall (Bedfordshire) and Tim Robinson (West Sussex). The Fourth Official will be Oleksandr Saliy (Middlesex).
