13 April 2010 : Officials Tonight

Our referee for this evening's fixture at Huish Park against high flying Millwall is Mick Russell (Hertfordshire). Mr Russell started refereeing in the early 1990’s, progressing through the South Midlands League to reach the National List of Assistant Referees in 2000. He was promoted to the referees’ list in 2004. In his 36 matches to date this season he has issued 3 red and 90 yellow cards.

Russell (who seems to prefer to be known as Mick rather than Mike these days) was a regular face at Yeovil matches in our early League One years, but we don't think we have seen him at Huish Park since January 2008 when we lost 0-2 to Walsall in appalling weather conditions (Walsall Blow Yeovil Away).

The first time we met him was against tonight's opponents, Millwall, in the Football League Cup, when he sent off Liam Fontaine in what subsequently turned out to be the last ever game for Gary Johnson as Yeovil Town's manager (Profitable night for the Lions - and the police).

The other officials show up at Huish Park on a frequent basis: Kevin Johnson (Somerset) and Simon Knapp (Gloucestershire) are the Assistants running the lines, Richard Martin (Somerset) the Fourth Official.
