Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton has said that Jean-Paul Kalala and Terrell Forbes will be valuable assets to the club during the second half of the 2009-10 season. The pair yesterday signed half-year deals at Huish Park that will keep them at the club until the end of the season.
With the majority of the Yeovil Town squad having a very youthful outlook to it, having Kalala at 27 years old and Forbes at 28 years old gives the Glovers rare experience, with both having spent plenty of time at Yeovil as well as other League One clubs. Skiverton told BBC Somerset that he saw Kalala's strengths as being his ability to break up opposition play, rather than his creative skills:
"With JP (Kalala) he is a very destructive type of player. He gets his foot in. He knows his limitations. He's not somebody who is going to run from his own box and cut people open with passing. But he'll win the ball back, and we call him the 'AA Man' because he gives it to the man who can!"
Forbes has had a career that has taken in first team appearances for AFC Bournemouth, Queens Park Rangers, Grimsby Town and Oldham Athletic, but over the last 3.5 years, Yeovil Town has been his home.
Skivo may be exaggerating a touch with his statistics for his former central-defensive partner who may come close to breaking 400 professional appearances by the end of this season, with 161 of them so far for Yeovil, but there's little doubt his overall assessment of Terrell rings true:
"Terrell brings us that experience as he's got over 500 league games in League One. He's got that pace, that mobility and he's a good character in and around the changing room as well. He's not playing at the moment, but he's put in some fantastic performances for us this year. To have that kind of experience through to the end of the season is vital for everyone at Yeovil Town."
For the statisticians amongst you, using Terrell's own personal yardstick, where he said it took him 368 appearances to score his first goal (at Bristol Rovers) we make it that he has made 374 professional appearances so far.
