22 November 2009 : Parkinson Disappointed Not To Have Won Game
Charlton Athletic manager Phil Parkinson admitted that he had mixed feelings at yesterday's 1-1 draw against Yeovil Town at Huish Park. Although coming back from a goal down whilst a man down might be seen as a good result, he told BBC London that he was actually disappointed not to win the game and said he would be playing close attention to the matchday DVD:

"When you're 1-0 down and you've got (Sam) Sodje sent off, then it's a point gained. But if you analyse the second half and the number of chances that we've had, including the disallowed goal which was a very contentious decision, then you have to say that we should have won it. We were so disappointed with that first 'goal' because it got disallowed. They were saying it wasn't offside, but we'll only be able to see when we get the tape and play it when we go back on the coach. Akpo scored a really great goal and then we had two or three really good chances to go on and win it for us."

Unlike Southend United boss Steve Tilson and his players last weekend, Parkinson said he had no complaints whatsoever about the red card dished out to defender Sam Sodje saying that the referee had no choice:

"No complaints, as obviously he's the last man and he's brought him down. So he goes. We were more disappointed that we conceded just before half time because we had the elements against us. I just felt that if we had gone in at 0-0 at half time that we had a great chance. But even at 1-0 down I said let's go and win this and be positive. Let's put pressure on them all over the pitch, and we did. The performance in the second half was tremendous."

Despite being a man down, Charlton put Yeovil under the cosh during the second half, and Parkinson added that having a man disadvantage meant little when the elements had so much influence over the game:

"It was one of those days where because of the conditions, having 10 men against 11 didn't really come into play. There wasn't a great deal of football played. The outstanding things for us was the character and determination of the team. Our supporters were absolutely tremendous and although we talked about it before the game, we wanted to put on an away performance after the Norwich and Carlisle games. We had 1,200 supporters stood out in the pouring rain and I'm pleased that they'll be going home having seen a really good Charlton display. I thought the supporters were really fantastic to come in as many numbers as they did and to give us the backing that they did. I'm just pleased that we put in a performance that I'm sure they'll be proud of, and like me they'll be disappointed that it wasn't three points."
