Yeovil Town's on loan goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has once again been called up into the England Under 21 squad. The Reading player is one of three goalkeepers included in the squad that will face Macedonia in a European Championship Qualifier on Friday 9 October at the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City. Kick-off is 7.45p.m.
McCarthy will be competing with Blackburn Rovers keeper Frankie Fielding and Watford's Scott Loach for the starting position. His selection means that at the very least he will face disruption ahead of Yeovil Town's fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion next Saturday. With the fixture being played on the Friday night, it is possible for McCarthy to head back to Somerset immediately after the game, but his selection for Yeovil's League One fixture will depend upon whether he takes part in the Under-21 fixture on the night. Whether he plays or not on the Friday night, McCarthy should at least make Yeovil Town's bench, with Richard Martin able to take the starting position, if required. The full squad is as follows:
England Under 21s: Frankie Fielding (Leeds United - on loan from Blackburn), Scott Loach (Watford), Alex McCarthy (Yeovil Town - on loan from Reading), Ryan Bertrand (Reading - on loan from Chelsea), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Sam Hutchinson (Chelsea), Michael Mancienne (Wolves - on loan from Chelsea), Kyle Naughton (Tottenham Hotspur), Micah Richards (Manchester City), James Tomkins (West Ham United), Chris Smalling (Fulham) Lee Cattermole (Sunderland), Tom Cleverley (Watford - on loan from Man Utd), Jack Cork (Coventry City - on loan from Chelsea), Fabien Delph (Aston Villa), Fabrice Muamba (Bolton Wanderers), Jack Rodwell (Everton), Danny Rose (Peterborough - on loan from Tottenham), Junior Stanislas (West Ham), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Andy Carroll (Newcastle United), Zavon Hines (West Ham United), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United).
