On loan striker Jonathan Obika was a substitute for England Under 20s in their opening World Cup match against Uruguay tonight. Obika replaced Paul Marshall in the 71st minute with England struggling to create chances against the South Americans. Within two minutes of coming on as a substitute, he got in on the angle and lifted a shot over the bar.
But with six minutes left Uruguay substitute Tabaré Viudez produced a superb volley inside the box to settle the tie by a 1-0 scoreline and leave England bottom of their group after the opening fixture.
In the other Group D match today, Ghana beat Uzbekistan by a 2-1 scoreline and so currently top the group on goals scored. Ghana are England's next opponents on Tuesday night, also in the Ismailia Stadium.
