5 September 2012 : No Beer Tent Access For Bournemouth Fans
No great surprises, but for Saturday's League One match against AFC Bournemouth, access to the Beer Tent at Huish Park will be for home supporters only. The match takes place on Saturday 8th September, with a 3.00p.m. kick-off.

There will be no access to alcohol at Huish Park for Cherries fans, and so they will need to choose pubs in the surrounding area if they want a pre-match pint. As a result, we'd expect home tickets to be checked by stewards for those Glovers fans wanting to visit the Beer Tent (aka the Hospitality Marquee) so make sure that you go via the Huish Park Ticket Office first if you need to pick up tickets.

Cherries fans wanting a few tips on local pubs both walking distance from the stadium, and out of town, can view a list via the link below.

5 September 2012 : Gas Boss Labels Cup Defeat As Scandalous
Bristol Rovers first team manager Mark McGhee has labelled last night's result against Yeovil Town as 'scandalous', after his team crashed out of the Football League Trophy. The Gas were on the wrong end of a 3-0 defeat after the Glovers netted three times in the final 20 minutes of a local derby that took a long time to warm up.

McGhee's annoyance appears to stem from a first half decision made by referee Michael Naylor, who chalked off a 'goal' scored by Michael Smith - disallowed by the match official for a foul on Glovers defender Byron Webster that was committed in the build-up. The Rovers boss believes that should have stood, and that it changed the pattern of the game:

"It was a scandalous scoreline. Goals change games and we had one disallowed which should have stood. I can't fault the players and I feel for them that they are on the end of a 3-0 defeat. We will win games in League Two playing like that."

Rovers, who have yet to score on their home patch during the 2012-13 season, eventually succumbed thanks to two excellent free kicks from long shot maestro Ed Upson. Substitute Gozie Ugwu was fouled by Tom Parkes for the first one, and McGhee added that he didn't think that decision should have been given either:

"I didn't think it was a free-kick for the first goal. The Yeovil lad has done well to win the foul and I would have done the same myself, but the referee should have seen that he bought it. It was a much better performance from us and something to build on. It was chalk and cheese from the second-half display in our (0-4 home) defeat by Morecambe on Saturday."

5 September 2012 : McAllister Ban Confirmed By FA
The Football Association have today confirmed that Yeovil Town left-back Jamie McAllister will serve a three match ban for his red card in last night's Football League Trophy tie. The club captain was dismissed for an off the ball incident involving Bristol Rovers striker David Clarkson, during the final 20 minutes of the 3-0 win over the Gas.

The FA have now confirmed this as a three game ban for violent conduct, meaning that he will now be missing for the home match against AFC Bournemouth as well as the trips to Milton Keynes Dons and Leyton Orient. He will return on Saturday 22nd September for the home match against Sheffield United.

With left-sided defender Curtis Haynes-Brown on loan at AFC Wimbledon, and currently injured, McAllister's boots will be filled by Nathan Ralph, who came on as a substitute to fill the full-back slot after the red card.

5 September 2012 : Ticketing Arrangements For Pompey Fans
Yeovil Town have issued Portsmouth supporters with special instructions for the sale of tickets for the forthcoming League One fixture between the two clubs. The match takes place on Tuesday 2nd October at Huish Park, with a 7.45p.m. kick-off.

Advance tickets for Pompey fans will ONLY be sold from the Huish Park Ticket Office - the club will not be releasing tickets down to Fratton Park for the game.

Although no reason has been given for this, we suspect that this relates to the uncertainty surrounding Portsmouth's future, and exactly which trading company Yeovil Town would be dealing with by the time the fixture takes place, given that administrator Trevor Birch has set a deadline of Friday 14th September for either Portpin or the Portsmouth Supporters Trust to satisfy both the terms and conditions of the CVA and the Membership Criteria laid down by the Football League.

As for the match itself, Pompey fans wanting to purchase tickets should go direct to the Huish Park Ticket Office on 01935-847888 to buy by credit/debit card. There will be 1,500 Copse Road Terrace places made available to supporters, along with a small number (usually around 400-600) of seats in the Screwfix Stand that are sold only to seniors, ambulant disabled and families.

For Yeovil Town supporters, there are no special arrangements, although if Pompey do sell out their allocation, then expect plenty of quizzing from Ticket Office staff if you're a Glovers fan living in the Hampshire area - we'd recommend you apply early if you're not on the Ticket Office database.

5 September 2012 : Officials For Yeovil Town vs AFC Bournemouth
Officials for Yeovil Town's home League One match against AFC Bournemouth have been published by the Football League. The match takes place on Saturday 8th September 2012 at Huish Park, with a 3.00p.m. kick-off. The man in charge of the fixture will be referee Iain Williamson (Berkshire).

Although Mr Williamson has a reputation in the Football League for being rather card-happy, our experiences of him have not been too bad at Football League level, and we've even agreed with some of the decisions he's made regarding our own players dismissals.

The most recent match he took charge of was the October 2011 away match at Stevenage that saw us draw 0-0. No complaints about the red card issued to Luke Ayling for an on-the-line hand ball, whilst his later call-up by the FA was at the instructions of the Fourth Official, rather than Mr Williamson. In fact, he did us a mini favour of sorts in that Ayling's infringment stopped their opponents from scoring a goal, with the referee failing to allow an advantage that saw the ball almost immediately hit the back of the net on the rebound. An error of judgement if you were a Stevenage fan, but as Marek Stech saved the eventual penalty, and we held on with ten men, we can't complain too loudly about it!

Prior to that, we had him for the League One home match against Exeter City during the 2010-11 season. We lost the game by a 1-3 scoreline, and Mr Williamson had nothing to do with that - if anything he ruled that a Grecians penalty appeal was deserving of a free kick in the other direction when it could have easily gone against us. Prior to that, he took charge of the home game against Leicester City all the way back in January 2009. The match was live on Sky Sports and was a booking-free affair, where certainly the Foxes 0-2 away win was unaffected by the officials, who had a quiet game.

Before that, you have to go all the way back to an April 2007 home game against Rotherham United, and prior to that an away game against Barnsley along with earlier home matches against Lincoln City and Torquay United. The Lincoln match is significant in that it was our final game at League Two level. We have had him several times during our non-league days as well, with his promotion to League level happening 12 months before we got there.

Our past reports of him are that he's got through each game relatively quietly without ruffling too many feathers, although we've noticed around the internet that he's upset people in a lot of other games. Maybe we catch him on his good days.

Mr Williamson will be assisted by Timothy Wood (Gloucestershire) and Paul Rees (Somerset). The Fourth Official will be Kevin Johnson (Somerset).

5 September 2012 : Johnson Pleased With Goal Tally But Not Performance
Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson has admitted that last night's match against Bristol Rovers wasn't quite what he wanted to see, even if his team did come out with a 3-0 victory. The Glovers grabbed three goals in the final 20 minutes of the match, as two Ed Upson free kicks, and an injury time Sam Foley goal lit up what had been a poor first half performance.

Speaking to BBC Somerset after last night's game, Johnson's main gripe with the match, was that he felt that the three goals were largely all his side had offered and said that if those hadn't been scored that his reflection on the game would have been rather different:

"It was a game where our supporters saw the three goals at their end, which was nice, so they will have felt a part of that. So the boys were able to celebrate in front of them, which is nice. And really that's it. It was just about the three goals. If it had ended 0-0 then we would have had to have paid people their money back."

The main low point of the match from a Yeovil perspective was a red card shown to captain Jamie McAllister, who was dismissed for an off the ball incident involving former Bristol City team-mate David Clarkson. Johnson explained that he didn't see the incident, but had got the gist of why it happened, and said if true that McAllister would be getting fined:

"Well I didn't see the sending off, so I didn't know what it was, but whatever it was then of course I've got major complaints about it. He'll take his fine like everybody else, because he got sent off for petulance, if that's what it was - I presume that's what it was. I don't know how many games that is, or what he did. We'll have to find out. But he's our captain and that's disappointing that he's done what he's done. But he's been a great captain since the start of the season. We're going to lose him now for either one, two or three games - I don't know yet."

Whilst we've yet to see confirmation from the Football Association, we'd expect to see the incident recorded as violent conduct, which will carry a three match ban.

4 September 2012 : Rovers 0 Yeovil 3 : Upson Double Sinks Gas
Yeovil Town grabbed a route into the Second Round of the Football League Trophy tonight, as they turned over local rivals Bristol Rovers on their own patch. The 3-0 scoreline perhaps belied what was a closer game, but two second half Ed Upson free kicks stunned the Gasheads as he got his first goals of the 2012-13 season. Upson then turned provider in injury time as Sam Foley got his first goal for the Glovers. The only downside to the night was a red card for Jamie McAllister, who was dismissed for an off the ball incident involving former Bristol City team-mate David Clarkson.

The Glovers went into the match naming an unchanged line-up with only the need to name just five substitutes meaning that Archange Nkumu had to drop out of the squad. Gavin Williams and Curtis Haynes-Brown were also present at the match, watching their team-mates from the stands. In the Rovers line-up they had former Glovers Tom Parkes, Adam Virgo and Jamie Paterson, although Matt Harrold had to sit the game out through injury.

The game saw a fairly dull first opening 15 minute period, with Bristol Rovers have the majority of play, but without too many chances bar an Adam Virgo attempt that went well wide. However, when Yeovil got their first chance, they managed to hit the woodwork, as Jamie McAllister's free kick was missed by a number of Rovers defenders; the ball going across the box before Luke Ayling put a shot onto the woodwork.

Overall though this first half period belonged to the home side, even if their greater possession and forward play failed to turn into actual shots on target, with Marek Stech having to largely deal with crosses rather than attempts that would breach his goal. Eliot Richards had a couple of those half chances, whilst David Clarkson put a free kick over the bar. Rovers even had the ball in the back of the net through Michael Smith, but referee Michael Naylor blew up before Smith converted due to Matthew Gill barging over Byron Webster in his efforts to get to the rebound himself.

The 45 minutes was warmed up finally by Cian Bolger's dreadful tackle on Keanu Marsh-Brown, which got him a yellow card. Whilst the Glovers were preparing to take the free kick, Byron Webster and Richard Hinds got in a spot of pushing and shoving with Bolger, no doubt on the back of that foul as the players marked up from the dead ball. Fortunately referee Naylor chose to keep his cards in his pocket, whilst the players regained their heads by the time the half time whistle blew.

This had been a poor performance from a Glovers point of view, and they needed to up their game badly. Rovers still managed to get the ball in the back of the net though, within minutes of the restart, with an offside flag denying David Clarkson a positive start for the home side. Gradually it was the away side that got into the ascendancy, although it was only after a couple of substitutions that they really began to take hold of the game, as Gozie Ugwu replaced James Hayter, and Rohan Ince came on for what looked to be an injured Byron Webster.

The opening goal of the match came not long after Rohan Ince had headed over from an Ed Upson cross. The growing Glovers pressure induced former loan defender Tom Parkes into fouling Gozie Ugwu, and Upson took on free kick duties. The ball arrowed direct into the back of the net from 20 yards out to give the midfielder his first goal of the season, and in doing so meant his side now had something to hold onto in the remaining twenty minutes.

Not that they had it their own way. Jamie McAllister and Rovers striker David Clarkson were good friends whilst in a Bristol City shirt. That didn't show when Rovers were given a throw-in, with just 14 minutes remaining - the two players got into a spot of handbags about it, and when McAllister raised an arm towards the player, the red card was coming, and to be fair to the left-back, he didn't dispute it, walking off immediately, knowing he'd committed a moment of madness that would rule him out for three matches. Nathan Ralph was immediately introduced as a substitute to plug the gap and it seemed like it would be a long end to the game.

Instead, Yeovil had the cheek to extend their lead. The same combination of players were involved again - Gozie Ugwu was fouled on the edge of the box, as Rovers failed to deal with the Reading loanee - Elliot Richards the latest player to bring him down. Up stepped Ed Upson again, and the rest was as you were - this time from an even greater distance. 0-2 up and with six minutes remaining, a cushion, even with the man deficit.

Rovers problem was that their final shot on goal was decidedly powderpuff, with Marek Stech having to make few saves in anger. Tom Parkes was one of the few to force Stech to block his goal in the closing minutes, with the Gas efforts in vain on the night. Instead, the last laugh went to Sam Foley, who accepted a threaded ball from Ed Upson, two minutes into injury time, to polish off the night, to fire home from inside the box. 3-0 ... and very much a case of 'Goodnight Irene' for the Rovers fans as they chose to make their exits from the the ground, and from the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

4 September 2012 : Team News For Bristol Rovers vs Yeovil Town
Yeovil Town have named an unchanged side for tonight's trip to the Memorial Stadium. The Football League Trophy match against League Two side Bristol Rovers sees manager Gary Johnson leave his squad as per Saturday's match, despite the obvious temptation to tinker in what is a more minor cup fixture.

There is one minor change on the bench, with Archange Nkumu left out of the squad - competition rules only allow five substitutes to be named, with Bristol Rovers having to do the same. The team is therefore as follows:

Yeovil Town: (4-4-2)
1. Marek Stech
2. Luke Ayling 4. Richard Hinds 5. Byron Webster 3. Jamie McAllister (Capt)
7. Keanu Marsh-Brown 6. Dominic Blizzard 8. Ed Upson 14. Sam Foley
9. James Hayter 11. Reuben Reid

Substitutes:
12. Gareth Stewart 15. Lewis Young 16. Nathan Ralph 17. Rohan Ince 19. Gozie Ugwu

Bristol Rovers:
28. Sam Walker 2. Michael Smith 6. Tom Parkes 19. Adam Virgo 29. Cian Bolger 3. Jim Paterson 8. Matthew Gill 21. Wayne Brown 14. Lee Brown 7. David Clarkson 10. Eliot Richards

Substitutes:
20. Conor Gough 11. Fabian Broghammer 15. Oliver Norburn 16. Joe Anyinsah 24. Ollie Clarke

Speaking ahead of the tie, Johnson has recalled a few of his previous trips to the Memorial Stadium that saw him come up against old adversary Ian Atkins. Johnson is confident that current Rovers boss Mark McGhee will have things fully focussed on the football tonight:

"Certainly Yeovil vs Bristol Rovers has got that little ring about it. We've been there before. Mark McGhee is not quite the same personality as Ian Atkins, so I'm sure that proper things will be said in the dressing room this time, and it will be all about the football, as opposed to anything on the periphery."

4 September 2012 : Johnson Expecting Tight Encounter At The Mem
Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson does not believe that tonight's opponents league status will mean too much when the club travel to play Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium. The two sides meet in the Football League Trophy First Round, with the hosts sat in the relegation zone in the League Two table, whilst the Glovers sit in second place in League One, giving a separation of 45 places.

Johnson has told BBC Somerset that he is wary of that situation and remembers that in a pre-season friendly down in Huish Park five weeks ago, the two sides drew 1-1 in a tight match:

"It's not going to mean anything on the day. Bristol Rovers won't see themselves as poor relations. We had a good pre-season game against them, obviously not knowing that we were going to draw them in the JPT. But it's one that I'll look forward to. They've got a lot of players that I've worked with before. So I know the mentality of them. Mark (McGhee) has brought in three or four that are winners."

In having managed Yeovil Town during previous rivalries with Bristol Rovers, and then moving onto their main rivals Bristol City, Johnson is well aware of the 'special welcome' he is likely to receive from Gasheads tonight. He jokes that he is expecting a few cat-calls from behind the dugouts at the Memorial Stadium:

"They always welcome me with open arms at Bristol Rovers! I always feel very comfortable walking across that pitch, towards all my friends who will be waiting for me behind that dugout! Mark McGhee has done a good job and he's got some good players in there, and it will be a good game as both teams will want to progress in that competition. There's always a good atmosphere at Bristol Rovers, and I am looking forward to going there."

As for the Football League Trophy itself, the competition is often regarded as the least interesting of those that League One sides will compete in over the course of the season. However, with a trip to Wembley Stadium for those who do take it seriously, Johnson says he would like a cup run, and jokes about how the bookies should be seeing Yeovil's position in that competition:

"I'm sure that the directors will want a run in one of the cups at least. I think it's only League One and League Two teams? If it is, then we're the favourites, as we're at the top of that League One table - at this moment in time! If we stay top, then we're the favourites to win this competition, I suppose!"

Tonight's match kicks off at 7.45p.m. and the game will be played to a conclusion. Football League Trophy rules do not allow for extra time to be played. If the scores are level after 90 minutes, the game will go straight to penalties. Expect coverage on both BBC Bristol and BBC Somerset tonight on 95.5FM and other frequencies, starting just after the 7.00p.m. news, or head to @ytfcciderspace where there will be Tweets and Retweets on how the match is going.

2 September 2012 : Yeovil Town Ladies vs Cardiff City Ladies Photos
On Sunday afternoon, Yeovil Town Ladies carved out a 0-0 draw that kept their unbeaten 2012-13 season run going. Their first League Cup group game saw them match a Cardiff City side that normally plays in the division above them, and so was an impressive result at Wells City's Athletic Ground. 2 September 2012 : Brentford Man Of The Match Result
Yeovil Town's first away match of the 2012-13 season saw them travel to Brentford a couple of weeks ago, for a match at Griffin Park. The 3-1 win was gained thanks to James Hayter grabbing a brace, with a late own goal forced in under pressure from a Lewis Young cross.

Man of the Match voting saw James Hayter pick up a large number of votes, although mainly as second or third choice in the polling. Similarly midfielder Ed Upson came in for praise, having provided another assist on the night. However, the three points were pulled off thanks to a couple of stunning saves from Marek Stech, including a penalty save from Paul Hayes, and that allowed him to run out as an easy Man of the Match winner.

Full results are as shown below, with outright MOTM votes shown in brackets:

1 Marek Stech 404 (36)
2 James Hayter 240 (4)
3 Ed Upson 66 (5)
4 Sam Foley 40 (0)

2 September 2012 : Ticketing For Milton Keynes Dons vs Yeovil Town
Ticketing information for Yeovil Town's trip to play Milton Keynes Dons is now available. The game at stadium:mk takes place on Saturday 15th September 2012 with a 3.00p.m. kick-off. Ticket prices for the match are as follows:

Adults: £20.00; Seniors (65+): £15.00; Under-18s: £5.00.

Ambulant Disabled and Wheelchair Disabled supporters are charged as per Seniors. You are entitled to admit an assistant free of charge. All special arrangements for access and advance bookings should be made via the MK Dons Ticket Office on 01908 622 900.

MK Dons have been revamping and simplifying their ticketing structures for this season. They've also introduced a cash only turnstile to add to the barcode scanners that are used to access the automated facilities. However, they still recommend that you try to purchase in advance to avoid queuing. There is no matchday surcharge though, so the choice is yours. We'd expect the Huish Park Ticket Office to have advance sales for this game, although don't have absolute confirmation of this yet.

All Yeovil Town supporters are housed in the North-East corner of the stadium. Although you're some distance from the pitch, the view and the seating arrangements are of decent quality in this 'bowl' style stadium.

2 September 2012 : Officials For Bristol Rovers vs Yeovil Town
Officials for the Football League Trophy First Round tie between Bristol Rovers and Yeovil Town have been published by the Football League. The match takes place on Tuesday 4th September 2012, with a 7.45p.m. kick-off at the Memorial Stadium. The man in charge of the fixture will be referee Michael Naylor (South Yorkshire).

Mr Naylor was promoted to the Football League's referees list over the summer of 2010 and we've only had him once before as a man in the middle. That was for the 3-2 defeat against Milton Keynes Dons, where Mr Naylor's decision-making left a lot to be desired throughout the night. His key moment came in the 87th minute of the match, when Luke Chadwick took a theatrical tumble in the box, and the referee awarded the spot kick that won the game. Manager at the time Terry Skiverton was distinctly unimpressed at the decision, feeling that the Dons had been given a gift:

"I don't think you can get any more controversial than that. Their players have come away and said "I can't believe the referee has just given that". They were all laughing and joking and that's what's happening to us at the moment."

His overall performance over the night wasn't too clever - a tendency to allow a fractious atmosphere to build up between the players, rather than to take firm action, and so it was something of a surprise when he finally did make a firm decision on something - albeit one that television replays showed that Chadwick had made the most of.

Mr Naylor will be assisted by Mark Howes (Birmingham) and Edward Smart (West Midlands). The Fourth Official will be David Woolford (Hampshire).

1 September 2012 : Johnson: Half Hour Dominant Spell Won Us The Game
Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson was particularly pleased today with a thirty minute spell at Huish Park that he felt gave his side all three points today. The 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers saw all three goals scored during the second period of a game that the Glovers boss admitted they hadn't really taken control of in the opening 45 minutes.

Eleven minutes into the second half, they got their breakthrough, when James Hayter netted against his former club, sending them on their way to three points that keeps them in a strong position in the League One table. Speaking to BBC Somerset after the match, Johnson felt that half hour spell was the difference between the two sides, and admitted he was pleased to see his side reach double figures in points:

"To get your ten points early is really good. I thought that it could have gone either way at half time. We didn't quite start as bright as I'd like to, but we certainly had a half hour spell in the second half that was fantastic. It was that half hour spell that won us the game. Not just the one goal, but we had lots of opportunities and looked a solid group at that point."

Yeovil's second was scored by Reading striker Gozie Ugwu, who grabbed his third goal in eight days - lobbing the Doncaster keeper six minutes after coming onto the pitch. Johnson enthused about that, but said he had been expecting Donny to launch a fight-back, which only materialised when visiting striker Billy Paynter grabbed a consolation deep into injury time:

"We scored our second goal after the substitution, which was nice, but Donny are never going to lay down and die - that's not their way. So they came back there right at the end, but obviously too little, too late. So I'm very very pleased that it's another three points. Doncaster are going to be a very very difficult team to beat because of their size. We had to be very brave in both penalty areas, and we were."

1 September 2012 : Yeovil 2 Doncaster 1 : Hayter Haunts Defeated Donny
Former Doncaster Rovers striker James Hayter came back to haunt his former club this afternoon, as he helped his new team on to a win that keeps them near the top of the League One table. Whilst a 4-0 win for Tranmere Rovers meant that the Glovers dropped a place in the table, Hayter's opening goal eleven minutes into the second half saw him head home a Reuben Reid cross, and when substitute Gozie Ugwu chipped Donny keeper Gary Woods, the points were in the bag. Billy Paynter's goal four minutes into second half injury time dented the goal difference slightly but came too late to stop Yeovil Town maintaining their strong start to the 2012-13 season.

The Glovers went into the match fielding an unchanged line-up across both the starting eleven and the six substitutes. The only pre-match doubt had been Jamie McAllister's ankle injury he sustained in the midweeker against West Bromwich Albion, but he managed to pull through to retain his place in the side. James Hayter was coming up against his former club, whilst Jamie McCoombe and David Cotterill were coming up against their former manager, having both been on Bristol City's books.

It took Yeovil around fifteen minutes to warm up, with Doncaster edging a fairly low key opening period. However, Reuben Reid got himself two good chances to open up his side's attacking pressure - firstly heading a Luke Ayling ball into the box against the crossbar, and then seeing a stabbed attempt towards goal cleared off the line by David Syers with keeper Gary Woods well beaten. Otherwise the Glovers struggled to get into a clear rhythm in the opening half - not that their opponents were creating much more.

Doncaster's main routes into the Yeovil half came down the flanks where Luke Ayling and Jamie McAllister had their work cut out, with penetrating runs from Donny's wingers forcing them onto their heels at times. Not that their end balls did too much - a Rob Jones header over the bar one of their more notable efforts. Instead the half was punctuated somewhat by a bit of picky refereeing from Dean Mohareb who frustrated the crowd by blowing up for some decisions, whilst letting other similar infringements go without stoppage. All in all, it was very stop-start and the longer the half went on, the fewer the shots on goal from either side.

The second period was thankfully far better - doubtless courtesy of a half time Gary Johnson rocket. The warning signs were there for Donny a few minutes into the half when Keanu Marsh-Brown and Sam Foley combined, with the latter's ball across the face of the box in the end neither a cross nor a shot, and James Hayter couldn't get on the end of it. However, eleven minutes into the half, Hayter did manage to get on the end of a cross - Reuben Reid's ball into the box saw the former Doncaster striker evade his marker and plant a header into the back of the net to put the Glovers 1-0 up. He chose not to celebrate, mindful of his five year association with the Yorkshire side, but will no doubt have been over-joyed at his third goal of the season.

Donny made a quick double substitution and a formation change, pushing players up in numbers in search of an equalising goal. That allowed Yeovil to chase them on the counter-attack, with one move seeing Ed Upson put away Reuben Reid, who slipped the ball through to Keanu Marsh-Brown. The winger's shot though was poor and headed out for a corner. At the other end it was rare for Marek Stech to make a save - on one occasion he pushed a David Cotterill free kick around the post for a corner. But more often than not it was the back four who were doing the defending - a couple of terrific blocks from Richard Hinds and Jamie McAllister during the half stopped Doncaster shots before they could get that far.

Instead it was substitute Gozie Ugwu who sunk Doncaster. A ball over the top found the Reading striker in space, and as he advanced through on goal, his chip over the advancing Gary Woods allowed the Glovers to go 2-0 up with six minutes remaining and to give the Glovers the bit of a cushion that they needed. This wasn't a five-star Yeovil Town performance, but they had done enough after the break to deserve all three points.

There was a late moment of drama when four minutes into injury time, former Leeds United and Swindon Town striker Billy Paynter grabbed a goal back, with substitute Iain Hume having provided the ball to his strike partner to breach Marek Stech's goal. But just 30 seconds later, referee Dean Mohareb blew his final whistle and there was barely the time for Doncaster to gain possession to threaten any late drama.

A fine win, and whilst it may leave Yeovil Town in second place, they have still put themselves in a strong position for the start of the season. Last year, it took until October 22nd for the Glovers to muster 10 points in the League Table. There's no doubt that based on that yardstick, they are currently well ahead of schedule.

1 September 2012 : Team News For Yeovil Town vs Doncaster Rovers
Yeovil Town have named an unchanged line-up for this afternoon's League One game against Doncaster Rovers. The only doubt for the match was whether club captain Jamie McAllister would recover from an ankle injury sustained in the midweeker against West Bromwich Albion - he has done so and takes his usual spot as a left-back.

The game against Yeovil's old Conference rivals will be watched by two faces that are known to national television. Football League Show reporter Mark Clemmit is present at the game, suggesting that we're going to get a bit more than the usual coverage on their show tonight. Meanwhile Olympic gold medal-winning shooter Peter Wilson will also be at the ground supporting his local club, having returned back to his home near Sherborne following his London 2012 triumph.

1 September 2012 : Hayter Prepared To Face Former Club
Yeovil Town striker James Hayter comes up against his former club this afternoon, believing that the Glovers are heading into the first of three matches that will define whether they have the ability to stay in their early top of the table position. The club play Doncaster Rovers today at Huish Park, but will follow that up with another home game against AFC Bournemouth and a trip to Milton Keynes Dons.

With all three sides pitched high up in the list of teams fancied by bookies and pundits for the 2012-13 season, the question is whether the Glovers are capable of matching them over the next fortnight. Speaking to BBC Somerset, Hayter believes the games will be an important yardstick:

"Doncaster are one of the fancied teams in the league. I think in our next three League games coming up we've got Doncaster, Bournemouth and MK Dons who are all teams that are fancied to do well. So I think they will all give us a good test and show us where we are realistically, within our squad. So it's going to be a tough game, but I'd say we're quite confident at the minute and playing some good attacking football, and I feel that we're capable of getting a result."

Hayter himself a former Doncaster player - with 178 appearances 39 goals to his name across five years - most notably their winning goal in the 2007-08 League One play-off final that took Donny up into the Championship. The 33 year old was released over the summer, resulting in his move back down south. Hayter adds that he enjoyed himself whilst at the Keepmoat Stadium, but adds that they've had a high turnover of players since the end of last season:

"I had five good seasons at Doncaster, so it will be a bit strange to be playing against them. There will be a few familiar faces in their team, but there's been a big turnaround of players over the last season and over the summer, as everyone who was out of contract left, and they had to get rid of a few of their higher earners as well. So there has been a big turnaround in players and there's only a few familiar faces. So it will be a little bit different. But it will be nice to see a few of them, and hopefully we can beat them."

1 September 2012 : Pompey Administrator Sets Yet Another Deadline
When Portsmouth set up their Company Voluntary Arrangement on June 25th, they in theory had a 28 day deadline to complete the deal and their plan to exit administration. That date was allowed to pass unnoticed, but eventually administrator Trevor Birch set a deadline of August 10th or the club was to be pushed into administration. Just before that date, Balram Chainrai's Portpin bid was withdrawn from the date, leaving Portsmouth Supporters Trust as the only interested party looking to take over the club.

Birch allowed the PST an additional week to make their bid final, and to put it into a form that would satisfy the company's exit from administration. The Trust managed to meet this deadline, although there was a twist to proceedings, as Portpin re-entered the frame yet again, submitting their own bid to buy the club - which they pretty much admitted was the same was the one that they'd withdrawn just before the August 10th deadline.

Now Birch has put out yet another deadline for both parties to meet, with Friday 14th September the date to stick in their calendars. The administrator admits that neither bid is in a fit state to satisfy the terms needed to exit administration. These must include adherence to the CVA, as well as satisfying the Football League's rules on insolvency that include the need to meet the debts of all Football Creditors. Birch explains:

"We have held detailed discussions with both Portpin and the Pompey Supporters’ Trust over the past week. As neither party is currently in a position to complete a deal we have been unable to make an informed decision as to which offer is in the best interests of creditors. We have therefore decided to give both parties two weeks to finalise terms to acquire Portsmouth Football Club. We will now work with Portpin and the Trust as they finalise their plans and seek to satisfy the Football League and the Professional Footballers’ Association of their respective abilities to sustain the club in the future."

Birch also claims that he will be aiming to dispute the 10 point penalty that will be imposed upon the club if they do finally exit administration:

"We will also use this opportunity to request a review of the points deduction that is being held in abeyance on the club by the Football League."

The Football League's decision to deduct ten points from Pompey was based upon their failure to satisfy their previous CVA agreement that was set up back in 2009 during their last administration. Having failed to pay any of the debts surrounding that company collapse, the League's logic is to penalise the club for junking that agreement. Thus it's hard to see why the League would listen to any appeal, given that the deduction relates to the contents of the new CVA, rather than what Portpin and the PST are proposing.
