Russell Slade talks to BBC Radio Bristol after the 2-0 win over Oldham

Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade talked to BBC Bristol's John Bennett after his side had beaten Oldham Athletic 2-0 at Boundary Park on November 1st 2008.

RS: I'm delighted to come to Oldham and manage to take the three points. It's not an easy place and it's not even been a successful place for me, particularly in the past. So to get three points is magnificent, particularly on the back of their fantastic win in midweek against (league leaders) Scunthorpe. We've been on our travels to Huddersfield on Tuesday and we've had another long journey today. I thought the first 25 minutes were important and to come out of that still well and truly in the game was important for us. We managed to maintain that until half time and I thought that in the second period we played with a bit more purpose in our play and looked as though we might get a goal in the second half and that is what happened. We got a goal through big Browny with a header and then we followed that up fairly quickly with Warney on his old stomping ground where he has taken it out of the air really well. Part of the plan was to play a front two to keep them stretched, because we knew that their full-backs bomb on quite a bit. So it paid off for us, because we hit one in there, and Warney managed to get it. Fair play to Oldham as they kept plugging away to get back into the game, but we remained resilient right to the death. I'm pleased with the clean sheet as that's the third on the trot now.

JB: How pleased are you with Aaron Brown - part of the clean sheet and part of the defensive performance, but he got a goal as well.

RS: He's going to be a threat because of his size, in both boxes. I thought he tired in the last 10 minutes if I'm being critical, and he started losing his timing on his clearances. But overall he has done a magnificent job in the last two games. You can't just single out him though as I thought the whole of the back four have been responsible for keeping clean sheets. Asmir as well, who has played his last game officially for us, until January at least, has played his part as well. So it is difficult to pick one out but they have all done a good job.

JB: It must feel fantastic, because the media were writing you off before this game.

RS: Yes, I think in every single paper, Oldham were the banker that they give five teams the nod to. So I think it is a shock, as I don't think too many would have picked us on the coupon.

JB: Do you feel you've turned the corner? This is a great run and I think it's now 283 minutes since you conceded the goal.

RS: No, I don't think we've turned the corner but we've got a little bit of momentum going now. We've got a few clean sheets under our belts and we seem to be working really hard. We always have all season and we deserved that change in fortune. But we've got to keep it going. You can see the likes of Carlisle who started the season particularly well, but then they've found the difficult period that they are going through now. So it can still change very quickly, and I know that. So we'll just keep on going back and working very hard and making sure that we can climb up that table a little bit. We've got a bit of a change on now, because we've got the FA Cup to look forward to and obviously no midweek game, so that will be something positive as well.

JB: You also say goodbye to Asmir Begovic as well.

RS: Yes, he's been magnificent and really in those last four games he has got back to somewhere near where he was when we took him on loan last year. So we're pleased that he has got better and better. You've got to remember that he is only 20 years old and he has improved enormously, and he is a real presence. Josh (Wagenaar) is going to have to follow in those footsteps and do just as good a job.

JB: Finally, Russell is this one of your best wins as Yeovil manager?

RS: How can it be better than the Forest game?

JB: Top five?

RS: Maybe top five yes. It is a very good away win and we are very pleased, particularly in the circumstances. We've got one or two players coming back in so we are delighted really. It is a great result for the club and the fans and everybody concerned, so hopefully everyone has got a big smile on their face in Yeovil now.
