Russell Slade talks to BBC Somerset after the 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers
Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade talked to BBC Somerset's Drew Savage immediately after seeing his side beat Doncaster Rovers 2-1 at the Keepmoat Stadum on Sunday 16th December 2007.

RS: Obviously gentlemen, I am really pleased with the result. We know it is a difficult place to come. We know that they play a compact short passing game. At times you have to be patient and accept that they have the ball. So we had to weather that as Doncaster started nice and brightly and we didn't see enough of the ball. But I thought we grew into the game and although the first goal was slightly fortunate because it took a deflection, Darren Way was brave enough to break through the back four. We did that one or two times and maybe our final pass didn't allow us to do that on enough occasions in the first period.

DS: You're now one point and one place off the playoffs but I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that!

RS: Well we knew what the reward was today for both teams. A win was going to take the winning team one point behind Southend. That was reward enough. I thought we believed. I thought we believed enough to go out and get the second which came at a crucial time really, because I think it settled us down.

DS: That second goal, as events unfolded, was to prove really crucial given what happened in injury time.

RS: Yes, it was a typical Marcus Stewart goal wasn't it? One of those little headers that he pulls out of the bag for you. I thought we got some good balls into the box. There were a couple of good crosses in the first period where we should have met them. Zoltan Stieber put in a few useful balls. But yes, to get that second ball just gave use a little bit more comfort. I wasn't happy with the late one obviously, but the result is excellent for us.

DS: What did you make of the sending off?

RS: I didn't think it was. I thought he saw enough of the ball, but I can't do anything about it because it's two yellows.

DS: Darren Way was a little ball of energy out there wasn't he?

RS: He was yes, but for me our best player on the pitch today was without doubt James Walker up front. I thought he was outstanding. He is 19 or 20 years of age and he's only had a handful of games and I thought he was a real man out there. He got hold of the ball, he was playing people in, he was a real threat and I felt they struggled to handle him.

DS: He was being double-marked for most of the game as well.

RS: He was, but he's got such good feet. He's got a nice brain on him. He was sliding Darren Way in, he was sliding Warney in and he was doing exactly what we wanted of him.

DS: It seemed to me to be the kind of classic away performance that Yeovil Town put in last season and that got you into the play-offs. Do you feel the same sort of thing is starting to happen again?

RS: Yes, I think your point is spot on. I think it was a typical Yeovil performance from last season. We needed to be resolute and defend and to get our blocks in. But I think that in the main my keeper hasn't been over-worked and even then it was shots that we were having to deal with from distance.

DS: And given the problems that you've had with the tonsillitis bug that's been in the camp, it's nice to get back in the warm and get back to Somerset?

RS: Yes, well I had to rotate the virus a bit! Scott Guyett has had the virus but we managed to get him on the coach. Terry Skiverton travelled up this morning. We weren't sure about him but we got him on the bench and we put him on for the last 20 minutes to try and keep us going. That's the attitude. We all dig in for each other and we're starting to show that spirit that brought us so much success last season.

DS: I've had a quick look at the stats and it is hard to believe that is the first away win since Brighton in late September.

RS: You're the stat man! Our home form has picked up during that time which was obviously important to us. Now to back that up with an away win is timely.

DS: And now a chance to get one over Leyton Orient and pitch yourself right in the thick of that promotion and play-off battle.

RS: It's a big game isn't it? The disappointment is that we'll be going into that game without Marcus Stewart. Zoltan Stieber has taken a knock to the thigh so we at least hope that Zoltan will recover in time. Marcus is obviously going to be out for the one game. But he'll be back and he is so influential to us that we need him back.

Qu: Was it a gamble to throw Scott in, or were you always confident that he would get through the game?

RS: No I wasn't confident that he would get through the game, but he was feeling a bit more right than Skivo was. So it was a question of who was going to start and who was going to finish it.

Qu: Is it right that Skivo just turned the ball into his own net?

RS: Yes, that's right, I think. But I sent him on because I felt he could get a goal!
