Yeovil Town midfielder Joe Edwards spoke to BBC Somerset reporter Richard Hoskin after the 0-3 home defeat against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 9th August 2014.
RH: Joe, we appreciate you coming out after a disappointing home defeat. Did you see that coming today?
JE: No, not at all. We prepared really well for this season and we had a very good pre-season. We worked hard up until that game, and we never thought it would have gone that way. There's not many positives that you can take from it now. Obviously all of the lads are gutted, myself included. We did everything that we could up until that point, but it just didn't happen today.
RH: You wanted your first game as a club captain to be a bit more memorable than this.
JE: Yes certainly, it's obviously a big disappointment for myself. But it's more about the result for the whole team and the club really. It's not the start that we wanted or the start we thought we'd have. But we can only put it right now.
RH: I guess because it's the opening day we put more emphasis on it, but is it just one of those days, or are you a bit more concerned about that?
JE: Hopefully it's just one of those days. I was just saying to Hayts (James Hayter) that it can't get much worse - it can only get better from here! Hopefully it's just a blip and the boys will pick up from where we were at the start of this week, and then kick on again. It's obviously a bit disappointing but we need to look at the video tomorrow and see what went wrong, and then go again on Tuesday.
RH: Is it a good or a bad thing that the whole team needs gelling? It wasn't a particular area, and so the whole team has to take responsibility for it today?
JE: Yes, definitely, and I think that individually as well everybody has got to hold their hand up and say that wasn't good enough. But like you've said, we can look at it now and hopefully it's just a blip and we can improve on what went wrong and then kick on.
RH: Tuesday night - I guess you're as good as your next game. If you win that and then win against Gillingham on Saturday, things look a lot better.
JE: Yes, we can turn it around quickly, and we'd hope to do so. We've got a good bunch of lads here, so as long as we put right our wrongs, we can see where it takes us.
RH: You've got a strong bench, and the likes of Kevin Dawson didn't play today, whilst Joel Grant is injured. So we don't get all doom'n'gloom after only one game.
JE: No, a few of the lads are out obviously, but Granty and Daws will be back soon. So that will be a big bonus for us. But we've got a decent squad now. It's good that there's a game so quickly on Tuesday, so we can put it right there, and then hopefully we'll kick on.
RH: And when Gary has you in on a Sunday to watch the video, it isn't just to punish you, is it? It's to learn and realise what went wrong and for you to watch the game.
JE: Definitely - I think that's the important thing in the game these days - reviewing the game - what went wrong and what went right. We'll have a lot to look at tomorrow. It's obviously not going to be a nice video but if we can put that right on Tuesday then we should be okay.
