The Achieve By Unity Fans Partnership Meeting
Fri 19 Oct 2007

The Achieve By Unity Fans Partnership met for the first time this night last night, with a variety of subjects covered by the newly elected members.

The minutes of the meeting will be published on this website within five working days, but as a preview to that, the following is a summary of the discussions.

The meeting was initially chaired by Yeovil Town's Sara Bradley who explained what the club hopes to achieve this season with the partnership, as well as introducing the supporters and club employees present.

A secret ballot was then conducted to decide the Chairperson for the next twelve months, and Rich Rendell was duly elected.

The first item on the agenda was the match day programme. Dave Lilly felt that the programme had shown a vast improvement from last season, but felt that it still contained some errors.

Adrian Hopper said that the club was doing all it could to avoid this, now uses two proof readers, but did feel that some errors would always be unavoidable.

Most present agreed that the programme has shown a massive improvement this season, although some felt that it still contains too many adverts.

Mr Hopper said that it needs adverts to be cost effective, and to keep the price down for supporters. Those present felt that the sale of the present programme has been affected by the poor reputation of previous seasons, so the club should look at some promotions to encourage a larger readership.

The club said they would look into this.

Moving on to the website, again it was felt that the content had vastly improved, although Dave Lilly felt that he would like to see more written detail to accompany audio interviews.

Those present did however feel generally unhappy with the service given on the Glovers World part of the site.

This area, Adrian Hopper explained, is controlled by Premium TV.

Mr Hopper went on to say that both he and Ali King are constantly in contact Premium TV over the poor performance of the site, and had in actual fact written a number of strongly worded emails to Premium TV stating displeasure with the service.

Those present felt that the club should tell the supporters that performance problems are down to Premium TV, and that the club are actively trying to rectify the problem.

Adrian Hopper agreed to do this.

The next point of discussion was ticket pricing, with a lot of opposition to categorised matches.
The club felt that they had to continue with this policy to cope with the increase in costs, including police, at these games.

Those present still felt that the policy is still unfair, and that the club would still make more money through increased attendances if supporters were charged standard prices at these games.

The club said that they would look into whether they would continue with the policy next season.

Sara Bradley then explained the selection process for the Achieve By Unity Fans Partnership members.

She explained that ideally she would have liked to have allowed supporters to decide who should represent them, but due to time constraints she had allowed the club's Executive Committee to select the members.

Sara said that only one person had objected to the selection method, and those present felt it fair, although they would welcome a public vote amongst supporters next season if logistically possible.

Moving on, those present felt that the club needs to improve it's communication through improved advertising, particularly in the promotion of matches at Huish Park.

New Marketing Manager, James Richards explained that the club were now heavily advertising in the town centre and with local organisations.

They are also erecting a 'Next Match' sign outside Huish Park as a further promotion, as well as improving existing adverts in the local press.

The next subject was the tea bars, where one of the supporters present suggested that the speed of service could be vastly improved.

He explained that he was a consultant who specialised in such things and would be happy to give his time free of charge, feeling that he could speed service by 30%.

John Fry said that he would welcome his input, and asked him to make an appointment to discuss the matter further.

Dave Lilly then brought up the subject of the main bars at the club, asking if the Vice Presidents' Bar could be opened up to all supporters from 5.15pm on match days.

He felt that it would increase revenue for the club, and give the supporters a social gathering plus an opportunity to watch a live match on Sky.

Rod Hallett of the Vice Presidents said that although he didn't object, he felt that others would on the grounds that they paid for the use of the bar.

John Fry said that the club was still actively trying to change the covenants on the site, and hoped that improvements could be made in the future that would allow all parties to enjoy bar facilities after matches at he stadium.

Still looking at match days, Dave Lilly said that he would like to see the club doing more to improve the match day experience for supporters at Huish Park, suggesting such things as a jazz band outside the stadium, a hog roast, and various stalls.

The club said that they were looking at half time entertainment, and would certainly consider any suggestions supporters would have to make.

The floor was then opened to any other business, where the firework night on the 5th of November was discussed, as well as the Football League Awards, Achieve by Unity Awards, the Labeckons competition and the Staff vs. Supporters match that was requested for the end of the season.

As stated, the full minutes of the meeting will be published within five working days.
